Interview with Claudia Connor, Author of Worth It All

What can you tell us about your new release, Worth It All?

Worth It All is a love story through and through. It's about Paige, a single mother of a four year old struggling to make ends meet, and JT, a former football star who is now a prosthetics developer. They meet when the somewhat introverted hero is compelled to offer his help to Paige’s daughter. We then begin that beautiful slide toward love.

What's on your writing desk?

My writing desk is a cluttered mess. It’s also in my closet. Let’s see, I have a Diet Coke, a Kit Kat wrapper from last week, a junk mail envelope that I wrote a line of dialogue on while sitting at soccer practice, six hot pink Post It notes stuck in various places, a cough drop, three pens, a pony tail holder, and four spirals with loose pieces of paper hanging out of them. There’s actually more but I’m embarrassed to go on.

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

My favorite book couple is easily Eve Dallas and Roarke from J.D. Robb’s In Death Series. That man can say more with one look, one touch, than most say with a thousand words.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

Top five books I’ve ever read...You know that’s impossible for a reader nerd, like picking favorite children, but I’ll list the first five that come to mind at this moment...

The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons
Cry No More by Linda Howard
Sweet Baby by Sharon Sala
The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins
Seventh Heaven by Catherine Anderson

You’re hosting a literary dinner party. Which three writers are invited?

If I was hosting a literary party, I would invite Nora Roberts, Kristan Higgins, and Sharon Sala. What a dream! I’m getting excited just thinking about it. Can we PLEASE make that happen?

What is the one movie that you can quote the most?

I am a HUGE movie watcher so there are tons of movies I’ve watched over and over, but I’ll go with my hands down favorite movie of all time: Gladiator. ***SPOILER*** don't read if you haven’t seen it:

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

I’m such a nerd I’m including a video link. 🙂

What scene in Worth It All was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write in Worth It All was probably the visit to Virginia. Being in a room with all the McKinneys always makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Also, Paige’s daughter’s jealousy and possessiveness of JT was precious.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

I say this to my three teen daughters ALL the time: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. And also the Golden Rule.

Interview with Marquita Valentine, Author of After We Fall

What can you tell us about your new release, After We Fall?

It’s truly a story about healing, about learning how to become you again, and of course, there’s a hot cop who helps the heroine, Evangeline, on her journey. The thing I love about him the most is that he isn’t pushy. Their relationship is on her terms and he respects that.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

My husband inspired me to take the chance instead of going back to teaching elementary school. Authors Sarah Cannon and Ava Stone encouraged me to try self-publishing in July of 2012 and gave me so much information that my head spun for days. Now I’m a hybrid author — I write for Random House’s Loveswept line and another small press while still maintaining an Indie publishing schedule.

Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves?

The Mayflower Pact? I’m a huge political history buff and my concentration in college was history, so… anytime I can learn more about our nation’s past, I’m in. Yes, I am a nerd and proud of it.

What TV show have you binge watched?

Fuller House. I loved Full House as a child, so it was more than amazing to watch the “second generation” with my kids. Plus, they’re starting to say 'how rude' now. It cracks me up!

If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?

With my husband and kids.

Do you listen to anything while you write? If so, what's your audio of choice?

I do not as a rule, but sometimes I’ll have Amazon’s Echo play one of my favorite country music stations on their iHeart Radio App.

What scene in After We Fall was your favorite to write?

Oh my gosh! There are so many, but the scene where Evangeline and Hunter have a sorta date at the dog park was the cutest and funniest ever. Hot cop, taco truck, and cuddly pooches — who wouldn’t love that?

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Be slow to anger and quick to forgive.

Interview with Jen McLaughlin, Author of Lust Is the Thorn

Tell us a little bit about your new release, Lust Is the Thorn.

I absolutely loved writing this book! I think the best way to describe it is with a little math (I know, I know, but it’s true!) equation. Ready?

A man about to take his vows + his dead best friend’s little sister (who is a stripper!) + The Thornbirds + Shameless = Lust Is the Thorn.

Where did you write Lust Is the Thorn?

On my couch, with a blanket on my lap, and a cat on my feet. That’s pretty much my writing position for every book. As a matter of fact, it’s how I’m sitting right now!

What books are currently on your night stand?

Charged by Jay Crownover, Looking for Alaska by John Green, and Bringing Home the Bad Boy by Jessica Lemmon.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

1. All the Harry Potter Books.
2. All the Marked Men by Jay Crownover.
3. The Lux Series by Jennifer Armentrout.
4. The Fault in our Stars by John Green.
5. The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins.

Who is your favorite historical figure?

Alexander Hamilton…because Hamilton.

What will your next adventure be?

I’d have to say the two-week long road trip I’m taking across the country with my husband and four kids. I’m not sure we’ll all make it out alive…

What scene in Lust Is the Thorn was your favorite to write?

The shower scene!!! Okay, so the hero is in seminary school, so, clearly, he’s not going to give in to his urges for the heroine easily. So the scene where he is helping her shower was such a challenge to me, as a writer, to give it the deep amounts of passion and sexual tension that I wanted to show, without letting him actually DO anything to her. So, yeah, read it, and you’ll see what I mean. 😉

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Choose to be happy.

Interview with Kathryn McNeill Crane, Author of Finding Hope for Tomorrow

Tell us a little bit about your new release, Finding Hope for Tomorrow.

Finding Hope for Tomorrow is about a man who hid his grief, hopelessness, and fears behind a happy-go-lucky mask, until the day his future slammed into him and restored his hope for tomorrow. It's a story of life, love, healing, and hope.

You’re hosting a literary dinner party. Which three writers are invited?

Ah, food and books. Two of my absolute favorite things. 1) Ruth Reichl because she's an expert at food and books, 2) Karen Kingsbury because I want to be her when I grow up, and 3) Nora Roberts because I've been an avid NR's reader for over thirty years, and well, she's Nora Roberts!

What are the last books you read?

Advanced Reader Copies of Dark Corners by AM Madden, and Gripped by Joanne Schwehm. I'm blessed with talented friends.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

That moment when I think I have everything figured out, and my characters show me how completely wrong I am.

What is the one movie that you can quote the most?

Thanks to my three children, I would have to say Pocahontas, The Lion King, or Finding Nemo.

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

Curled up under a blanket reading a good book or writing on my Neo.

What scene in Finding Hope for Tomorrow was your favorite to write?

When Bekah threw up on Mrs. Tidwell. I loathe that woman.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

I try to live by these three things: Work hard, love harder, and treat others the way I want to be treated.
