Interview with Blaire Broderick, author of The Beginning of Everything

What can you tell us about your new release, The Beginning of Everything?

It’s a very emotional book that will capture your attention and feelings right off the first page.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I tried my hand at writing a few summers ago – writing a few novellas here and there. I started to realize I was the happiest when I was imagining how my dramatic stories would ride out.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

Pride And Prejudice by Jane Austen, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, Nineteen Eighty Four by George Orwell, Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

My first guest would be King Henry the VIII. I would ask him if he actually thought Anne Boleyn cheated on him or if it was due to her not producing for him a son. It needs to be answered, right? Right?! I totally have my priorities straight

What's your favorite thing about writing?

It gives me a chance to truly get lost in my ideas. As I stated earlier, I can’t possibly conceive of a better way to make myself happy. I believe everyone needs that hobby for themselves.

What is a typical day like for you?

Basically, I look at everything as an obstacle between me and my MacBook. In the morning, I get the kids ready for school, I make sure the dogs aren’t clawing at each other, and I help the husband get ready for work on time. After that It’s just me and my words (and my overgrown, gorgeous plants that accompany me in my office).

What scene in The Beginning of Everything was your favorite to write?

I really don’t want to give it away, but, the ending of this book. It was incredibly emotional and I hope everyone that gets that chance to read it feels like it was my best work so far.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

“Work hard so you can play hard.”  I’m currently in a great place in my life right now and I hope that everyone gets a chance to combine their hobby with their work like I have had the chance to do.

Interview with Doctor Connor Rex from Fake It For Me

By Alice Holiday

What do you look for in a woman, doctor?

Whoa there, jumping straight in there with the serious questions, huh? What do I look for in a woman? Curves, sex appeal, intelligence, and independence. A woman who doesn’t need me around. One who wants me around.

Oh yeah, and she’s gotta love kids, since I have a son.

You know, this question is proof I should never have agreed to do this. I can’t think straight with you sitting there, looking at me like that.

What’s your perfect date?

Netflix and Chill?

Kidding. But yeah, something simple like that. Nothing too fancy. I’m done with fancy. I’d prefer a no-clothes picnic on the beach. Are you picturing that, Alice? A no-clothes picnic on the beach with me? I know I am.

What is your one regret?

In high school, I let the one woman I wanted get away. That’s definitely a huge regret for me. But there’s good news. She’s back. Staring at me, right now.  Maybe I’ve got a second chance – what do you think?

If you could pick any celebrity to date, who would it be, and why?

Does it count if I say you’re a celebrity to me? I’ve got you up on that pedestal. Can I pull you down and carry you out of here?

Favorite position? (Sorry, I have to ask this – magazine insists)

You, pinned to the wall, your one leg around my waist, my hand in your hair, lips on your throat. Sound good to you?

Catch more of Doctor Rex and Alice (and find out if they got their second chance) in Fake It For Meout now on Amazon.

Interview with Jo Raven, author of Broken Compass

What can you tell us about your new release, Broken Compass?

Broken Compass is a contemporary romance Reverse Harem. That means that the heroine has several love interests and that they all end up together in the end. Broken Compass is set in the same world as most of my books, esp. Caveman and Bad Wolf. It has a lot of angst, suspense, and also sexy times.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I don’t think one thing or person inspired me. Stories made me do it! I love books and movies, I love stories, always have. It was not a big leap for me from reader to writer. I just wanted to write my own stories, the ones spinning inside my head, the ones I couldn’t find on the shelf. And here we are.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

This is tough… I will stick to romance for this one. I’ll have to say… the New Camelot trilogy by Sierra Simone (I’m cheating! I know). One Too Many by Jade West. Rock by JA Huss. Pet by Isabella Starling. Easy by Tammara Weber.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I’d invite Colleen Hoover, one of my favorite romance authors, and ask how she comes up with the crazy twists of her stories.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

Creating a world and its characters, then watch those characters struggle and grow and fight against all odds to find their happy ending.

What is a typical day like for you?

Wake up, have a bucket of coffee, check emails and reply to those that seem urgent. Start writing. Continue writing. Write until I drop. More or less… lol.

What scene in Broken Compass was your favorite to write?

Another tough question… Tough to say without giving spoilers. Let’s go with the scene when Sydney first lays eyes on Kash, the third of the three boys.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Always do your best, be as kind as you dare, and push your limits.

Interview with Loren W. Cooper, author of CrossTown

What can you tell us about your new release, CrossTown?

CrossTown was featured in the Publisher’s Weekly article on genre mashups, with the tagline, “a sorcerer explores the frontier of theoretical physics.” In the universe of CrossTown, the decisions we make when we build roads form a kind of network of probability, through which a knowledgeable traveler can cross into alternate universes. CrossTown is where those roads come together, and folklore, history, fantasy, scifi, and possibility all come together. And of course, CrossTown is all about the journey Zethus, the main character, makes as he tries to survive and solve the mystery of his Master’s murder.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I’ve been a reader as long as I can remember. I fell in love with writing in high school, under an English teacher Bob Monson. But my inspiration for joining Stanly Fish’s conversation was probably everyone I had ever read who left a mark on me, from Asimov to Zelazny.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

It’s tough to get down to 5, and revolves at any given moment. Authors are probably easier than books, but let me give it a shot. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Of Wolf and Man, Lord of Light, Armor, Silverlock.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I might get James Gunn as my first guest, and ask him what it’s like to have seen the lifecycle of modern science fiction.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

The moment when the Muse is upon you and you become lost in the story, and the words pour out of you and you look up at the clock, stiff and sore, and realize six hours have passed in a timeless moment.

What is a typical day like for you?

I have children. No day is typical. I write when I can, I work when I must, and I try to be there for my family.

What scene in CrossTown was your favorite to write?

There’s a long sequence where I borrow heavily from the Tri-State Tornado (The Tri-state Tornado, on March 18, 1925, ripped across Illinois, Missouri, and Indiana, taking almost 700 lives and virtually wiping several communities off the map: it was the deadliest tornado in US history) for a character and setting. The eyewitness accounts informed the work, and gave that scene far more depth than it would have had otherwise.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

In an earlier age I probably would have been a Stoic, or perhaps a pragmatist in sense of William James. I’ve always liked Marcus Aurelius, “DO not speak in abstract terms of what it is to be a good man; be one.” The Meditations.
