Interview with Nitin Antoon, Author of Meera of Karmana

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Meera of Karmana?

I was inspired to write a story that portrayed characters without clear delineations of good or bad, but rather individuals with diverse perspectives. Drawing from the oldest cultures that persist to this day, I aimed to shed light on the world as it might have existed in ancient times. Through my narrative, I sought to offer a glimpse into the complexities of early civilizations and the varied lenses through which people viewed the world.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Meera of Karmana, what would they be?

"I Lived" by OneRepublic. This song encapsulates the essence of embracing life's challenges, pursuing dreams, and finding strength within oneself, which aligns with the spirit of Meera's character and her transformative journey in the book.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I have a great fondness for mystery books. There's something incredibly satisfying about unraveling a complex puzzle alongside the characters, and the process of piecing together clues to uncover the truth is truly exhilarating. I find it particularly enjoyable to engage with a story that encourages me to think critically and analyze each detail, only to be surprised by the unexpected twists and revelations at the end. While I thoroughly enjoy reading mysteries, I also find myself drawn to writing within the same genre, as it allows me to craft intricate plots and captivate readers with suspenseful narratives.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I'm currently reading a lot of old books about Indian, Indonesian and Hindu mythology, there are so many cultures even within with different opinions on the same topic.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

My favorite scenes to write were undoubtedly the last three chapters. As I penned those final moments, I was completely immersed in the story, experiencing it as if I were right there alongside the characters. The vivid imagery and emotional depth made it a truly captivating experience for me as a writer. I hope that readers will share in this immersive journey and find those scenes as compelling and evocative as I did.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Yes, I have a quirky writing habit that involves my dog. Whenever I find myself stuck on a particular part of the book, I have a habit of explaining it to my dog. Surprisingly, just vocalizing my thoughts to him helps me organize my ideas and often provides the clarity I need to continue writing. It's a unique approach, but it's been surprisingly effective for me.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

There are no inherently good or bad individuals, only varying perspectives.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

After reading Meera of Karmana, readers should remember the overarching theme of the book, which highlights the transformative power of self-discovery and the importance of embracing diverse perspectives. Additionally, the journey of the protagonist, Meera, as she navigates through challenges and mysteries, serves as a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit and the significance of inner strength in overcoming obstacles. Finally, the rich cultural backdrop of ancient India depicted in the narrative invites readers to reflect on the timeless wisdom and beauty found in cultural heritage.
