What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?
The inspiration behind this story is the joy of not only solving a crime, but also seeing true friendship and love conquer all the challenges that life can throw in the way. Especially long-standing family feuds in this case. Courage and joy.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?
I think maybe Carolina would sing "Country Road... take me home... to the place I belong..." but she would change the destination to Maine.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love to read cozy mysteries and women's fiction the most now, because as a retired teacher and principal, I used to read non-fiction and children's books all the time. Now my reading is a chance to get away into another world.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
My books are Louise Penny books, Richard Osman, and Shelby Van Pelt.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
Well, there is always a scene with the flamboyant permanent inn guest, Ms. Goldie Finch, that is hilarious. In this book, Goldie takes on a surprisingly personal liking to another character, which was fun to write.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Just like in my college days, when I get my head into writing, I have to keep going. I am not a ninety-minute-a-day writer. I am a stay-up-all-nighter because I have to get this written down, writer!
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Well, to be honest, the verse from Joshua 1:9 has given me the push I need sometimes to get up and accomplish some of my dreams, my responsibilities, and overcome challenges. "...Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." I share it with my grandchildren when I tell them that they can do anything that they put their minds to!
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
I would love readers to be impressed that following your heart and having the courage to speak up can change not just one person, but a small town's future generations for the good.
