Interview with Nicole Snow, author of Accidental Hero
What can you tell us about your new release, Accidental Hero?
This is a story with a hard-fought Happily Ever After, and I do mean HARD. Brent's history is so messed up he doesn't even know he needs chemistry with a good woman to fix it. And Blue, although her demons are a little more down to Earth, she doesn't know how big the hole is in her life waiting to be filled.
Not until she meets the tall, growly, hard-as-nails single dad who keeps showing up in the back of her art class. He's mysterious, he's hot, and one little kiss later, he's a very big part of her life.
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
Anything by Kristen Ashley or Sabrina Paige. They're two of my favorite badass writers in romance. Also Bared to You by Sylvia Day for just mastering the sleek, sexy billionaire hero. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes for introducing me to feelings I didn't know a book could cause. Richard Preston's The Hot Zone for being terrifying and way too real.
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Margaret Mitchell. I'd love to know what it was like selling truckloads of romance novels and having one made into an early feature film. Then I'd ask her why the hell I'm able to resurrect the dead for interviews.
BAM. You're a superhero. What's your superpower?
Finishing a novel a week and still getting my grocery shopping done. You know, the dream.
Where is your happy place? Why does it bring you joy?
Anywhere quiet with a good view and lots of green. I work best when the muse in nature is only a glance away.
What scene in Accidental Hero was your favorite to write?
When Blue goes out to the ranch for the first time with Brent and Natalie. I adore the buildup, the discovery, and when the tensions between the hero and heroine get so thick they just can't stand it. It's a delicate kind of torture for the characters. But when it's done just right, like it is here, the payoff is.

The Story Behind Survival of the Richest by Skye Warren
By Skye Warren
I’m Skye Warren, New York Times bestselling author of dangerous romance, and I’m so excited to be here at NewInBooks celebrating my new release! SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST is a novel about finding what you need by risking everything that you have.
And… it’s a love triangle!
Many romances have more than one love interest for the heroine, whether they’re boyfriends from the past or prospective suitors in the present. Those other men are usually relegated to supporting cast. Their purpose in the story can be to challenge and explain and ultimately support the romance between the main characters—but usually the reader is very clear that they aren’t a viable option.
So what makes a book a love triangle?
In these books there are two men who are very real contenders for the heroine, two possible heroes who might end up with her. The reader doesn’t know which one will happen in the story, much like we don’t know how things will happen in real life. That makes it a more adventurous read!
That might seem like a small thing, but it’s actually pretty huge when you consider that most stories resolve to please the reader. Mysteries are solved and romances are sealed, unless the book is a tragedy. Love triangles are unique in that they please half the reader… and make the other half completely heartbroken!
It’s a risky business for both readers and authors alike.
And with great risk comes great reward… There’s such an intense roller coaster ride with a genuine love triangle! These stories make readers feel and think and yearn.
There are a few love triangle books that I love…
SUGAR DADDY by Lisa Kleypas
The first time I read this book the ending took me by surprise. I won’t give the spoiler away, but I expected it to be the other person. But the more I read and re-read this book, which has been many times over the year, the more Kleypas’s skill as an author shines through in proving that her choice was the right man for her after all.
FAKING IT by Elisa Lorello
This sexy women’s fiction novel features a writing professor who exchanges lessons with a male escort. While the book starts as a somewhat conventional, if provocative romance, things go off the rails around the middle. Andi may long for Devin, but he’s not ready for a relationship. And her heart may belong to another man. This is a heartfelt and well-written book!
SURVIVAL OF THE RICHEST by Skye Warren
My new release focuses on Harper St. Claire, an heiress with complex relationships with men. She has a love-hate situation with her stepbrother, who also happens to control her trust fund. Actually it’s more of a hate-hate situation. Then her stepbrother’s business partner appears on the scene, confident and ambitious and determined to claim Harper for himself.
"What an incredible book! Survival of the Richest has everything -- Skye Warren's beautiful writing, a sexy, compelling story; intricate characters, and a provocative love triangle that will captivate you until the very end." ~ New York Times bestselling author Nina Lane
An heiress without a cause.
Two billionaires determined to claim her.
And a war fought on the most dangerous battlefield–the heart.
My story starts with a plunge into the cold water of Manhattan’s harbor. A strong hand hauls me back onto the deck of the luxury yacht. Christopher was supposed to be my enemy. Instead he protects me with fierce determination.
That should have been my happily ever after, but then Sutton appeared–ruthless and seductive. He doesn’t care that my heart belongs to someone else, because he’s determined to win. No matter the cost.
It’s an impossible choice, but I can’t have them both.

Interview with Anastasia Alexander, author of Catalina Romance
What can you tell us about your new release, Catalina Romance?
Catalina Romance is a reality TV romance based on the Bachelor show genre. In the novel, the main character, Charissa, has men flown onto the island of Catalina to woe her. I just love the idea of having men, lots of attractive rich men, flown into an island to woe. This puts a new spin on the old song, “It’s raining men.” There is a twist though, the men decide if they want to pursue a romance, too. A real a romance happens when both sides say, “Yes!”
I traveled to Catalina Island a few years ago with my teenagers on a cheap cruise out of California. While I was there, I fell in love with the quaint setting and the beauty of the mountains, ocean, and land. I immediately called my husband and told him I wanted to come back and do a romantic getaway on the island. He agreed but then next day upon arriving home I was slapped with a divorce decree and found half my belongings emptied out of the house.
That wish of returning and exploring love on the island stayed with me. Lucky for me, several years later, I remarried. I expressed my wish to my new upgraded husband and he immediately whisked me off to the island to make my dreams come true. We had an amazing experience. I truly found my Prince Charming, and I wanted my character who was going through a rough patch to find hers, too.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
When I was in six grade, during a recess in Idaho, the wind roared. I made up a poem about the wind on the spot and just loved how my feelings could be put to words. I was hooked after that. I just was enthralled with the idea of capturing more feelings and putting them into words.
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
Wow, that is a tough question I always struggle to answer. I read all types of genres, but to name a few of my favorites:
The Hypnotist’s Love Story by Liane Moriarty
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Becher Stowe
The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Jodi Picoult. I would love to ask her: What impact does she believe best selling women novelists have on the way women define themselves?
What's your favorite thing about writing?
I love when I tap into the flow, and I have swept away into another world where I can’t wait to find out what will happen and who I will meet.
What is a typical day like for you?
As a mom, wife, author, entrepreneur and adjunct professor, I have no typical day! My days are all over the place depending on what is needed. I teach writing at the local college, so depending on how much of a workload I take on I will kiss my girl's goodbye then teach in the mornings. At noon, I tend to follow up on business work and teaching until sleep overtakes me, and then I nap. I will then take a break and treat myself to working on my novel. Often will slip to my computer after my girls and hubby goes to sleep around 8:30 pm and I work until at least ten. The doc wants me to stop working then and sleep, but at times it is hard to pull away from the computer.
When I am not teaching, I often will sleep in until six am, spend some time with my girls, hit the treadmill, then the yoga mat before jumping into writing or coaching or prepping for teaching. I try to reserve my weekends for a lot of writing time because then I am restored to hit another week.
What scene in Catalina Romance was your favorite to write?
Wow, tough question. The earlier books in the Millionaire Romance series have a lot of humor. This novel has more heart because of tough issues Charissa is facing. Though, if I had to pick one scene, I’d pick when the men are first flown onto the island and Charissa is meeting them for the first time. There are some sexy men that she is dating and they do crazy things to win her love! One of them, Forester, kept stealing the scenes throughout the novel. I really like writing him. I already have fans asking me to give him his own dedicated novel.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Always make friends with tech support.

Interview with Riley Edwards, author of All the Pretty Girls
What can you tell us about your new release, All the Pretty Girls?
I fell head over heels in love with the characters while writing All the Pretty Girls. At its core the book is about the power of love. (Okay, so that sounds cheesy, but true.) My heroine, Meadow, believes she is broken and is riddled with self-esteem issues. Between a scar on her face and some medical issues, she believes she is less than a woman. Special Agent Nick Clark has his own struggles to work through. He is the youngest member of the Behavioral Analyst Unit and is trying to find his place within the team. When the couple finally comes together, Nick has to find a way to navigate the landmines that surround Meadow and conquer her demons. If anyone has ever needed a knight in shining armor, it’s Meadow. Ultimately, in the end it was Nick’s love that allowed Meadow to heal.
Even though I stepped away from my military-themed novels I normally write, All the Pretty Girls is still chock-full of suspense and complete with a strong, alpha hero my readers love. And it wouldn’t be a Riley Edwards novel if there wasn’t some smokin’ hot love scenes, as well.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I have always heard whisperings in my head. It goes back to junior high when I started writing Sweet Valley High fan fiction. I still have the handwritten stories in a ratty spiralbound notebook. I loved Jessica and Elizabeth, and in my preteen mind, they were my best friends.
But it wasn’t until 2016 when an author friend dared me to write a novel, did I attempt to put my words to paper with the intention of publishing.
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
I’ve always been an avid reader of romance, especially military romance. Top five? That is like picking a favorite of my four children. If I think too hard about this question, I’ll change my mind 552 times. So off the top of my head.
Masters and Mercenaries – Lexie Blake
Delta Force Heroes – Susan Stoker
Corps Security – Harper Sloan
The Burg series – Kristen Ashley
The Callaghan Brothers – Abbie Zanders.
See what I did there? LOL. I have read and reread each of those books. There is something in each one that makes me feel like I am apart of their family. In those books, I am home with a beer in hand, hangin’ with friends.
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Oh my god! I’m dying. Just one this time. JUST ONE! I wanna say Kristen Ashley just to ask if she’ll be my BFF, but that would probably make me sound a little desperate. If I had to choose one, it would be Susan Stoker. I think fans of her Deltas are dying to know how she’s going to wrap up the series. I’d win huge brownie points with the general population of Stoker fans if I could pull some spoilers out of her.
What's your favorite thing about writing?
As a writer I get to live hundreds of different lives. I get to be anything from a badass mercenary to a file clerk. I live in different places, do lots of cool stuff, and fall in (or out) of love every day. One day I’m on a mission in South Sudan, and the next I’m in Georgia. I love giving life to the characters in my head, but the best part of being a writer is crafting a story that touches someone else. It is both exhilarating and terrifying knowing my words are being read.
What is a typical day like for you?
I’m a super hero. My days are spent fighting crime, flying around the city, and taking down the bad guys. Okay, that’s total BS. Though in my head that’s totally what I do.
I’m so boring this is almost embarrassing to write. I’m a regular wife and mom. Two of my kids are grown and off in the military, but I still have two ‘littles’ at home. I run the kids to and from school and sports and struggle with homework. And just like every mom out there, dinner time rolls around and it’s like a big surprise when everyone asks, “What’s for dinner?”
When I’m not doing all of that, or I should say even while I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I’m thinking about either what I’m currently writing or what I want to start. When a reader hears an author say, “I hear voices in my head,” I don’t think they fully comprehend what that means. I can be anywhere doing anything and an imaginary argument or sweet love scene will play out in my head. When the voices get louder and are screaming at me, I know it’s time to grab a notebook and start taking notes. I do most of my writing while the kids are in school and after they’ve gone to bed. I am not one of those people that can write while the TV is on or people are talking to me. I will start to transcribe what I’m hearing. That is totally true and I’ve done it so many times. See? Totally boring. I write. I talk to strange people that live in my head. I spend time with my family.
What scene in All The Pretty Girls was your favorite to write?
Hands down, my favorite scene to write is when Meadow (the heroine) is explaining to Nick (hero) why they cannot be together. She is the survivor of a brutal attack; as a result she has a six-inch scar on the side of her face and struggles with her self-worth. She tells Nick she is “filler,” meaning she is the type of woman men date when they’re done being players but aren’t sure if they’re ready to settle down. Meadow believes that women like her aren’t good enough and are used to test the waters to see if a man is ready for commitment. Nick, of course, being the alpha male with a protective streak a mile wide loses his ever-loving mind. He gently but forcibly tells Meadow her way of thinking is completely jacked. Okay, who am I kidding? There was no gentle in there - he’s pissed and that’s when Nick showed me how fierce he can be. He’s not the mild-mannered FBI agent he shows the world; he is a true protector, even if he’s protecting the woman he loves from herself.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
My favorite quote is: “Life is the hardest teacher, it gives the test first and the lesson after.”
I think the philosophy I live by and try my hardest to teach my kids is not to be a quitter. So many times in life we are faced with difficulties. It’s what you do in those times that makes all the difference. Quitting and failing are two different things. There is a lesson to be learned when you fail. I hope to fail a thousand times in my life. When you give up, you never learn, you never grow, and you will never succeed.
