Stephanie Brother on Reverse Harem Romance
Why I Write Reverse Harem Romance
By Stephanie Brother
I started writing reverse harem romance novels several years ago, and I’ve got to say, I love it. For those unfamiliar with RH, it’s a story where a woman falls in love with more than one man. It’s entirely different from a love triangle and it’s definitely not cheating. All parties are open and honest with each other. The gist of RH is that a woman meets several amazing men who are so incredible that she couldn’t possibly choose between them—so she doesn’t. And the men feel that the woman is so special that they’re willing to share her in order to be with her.
The appeal of RH is pretty apparent. These days, we want a lot from our significant others. We want them to love us, support us, and understand us. We’d like them to make us laugh and be equal partners around the home. We want them to turn us on and be amazing in the bedroom.
That’s a lot to ask of one person, and most of us end up with mates with just a few of those qualities. For example, a woman with a supportive, tender boyfriend might love him with all her heart, but secretly wonder what it would be like to be with an Alpha male. Or a woman dating a bad boy might long for a man who’ll rub her feet and ask about her day after she gets home from work.
The heroine of a reverse harem novel doesn’t have to worry about those kinds of things—she can be with men who fill each of those roles. That’s part of what makes RH so fun to write. My books include very different kinds of men, but they’re united in their goal: to win the heart of the women they love.
Sometimes, it’s easier to craft an RH relationship if the men are already very good friends. I love to write about a strong bond between the guys. They might argue and joke around, but when push comes to shove, they’ve got each other’s backs.
Of course, there are some difficulties when writing reverse harem, especially when it comes to keeping track of the guys. When I'm writing a scene—especially a steamy scene—and use the word “he,” I need to make sure readers know which man I'm talking about!
When I’m not writing, I love to curl up with my Kindle or Audible app and indulge in a bestselling RH romance. If you haven’t yet discovered this popular genre, I hope you’ll give it a try!

Exposing The Truth Through The Frank Gould Mystery Series
This latest book in my series focuses a bit on the romance and comedy aspect of the characters I’ve developed, at least at first.
Romance and comedy are emphasized in my books and people tend to think of them as “cozy” for that reason. A common misunderstanding since I bend and blend the genres a great deal. However, I began writing The Frank Gould Mystery Series with a particular set of goals in mind and some of them had very “hardcore” ideals motivating me at every step.
Take a good, long look at this US Drug Enforcement Agency “most wanted” poster, please.
Although you don’t hear very much about these people or these organizations in the first few books, I wrote this entire series—and continue to do so—in order to write about them.
Perhaps you’ve heard about someone named Donald J. Trump. Mr. Trump became President of The United States of America in great measure on the back of horrid, racist lies and propaganda surrounding the actual, factual truth about these criminals and their organizations.
Among other things, I wanted to expose that truth and those horrid lies Trump and his supporters have told and so many Americans, unfortunately, have believed.
These monsters, depicted in this poster (and others not!) are responsible for terrible crimes, murders of tens of thousands of innocent people—and not-so-innocent people. And Trump used them, and racist lies about millions of innocent others, to obtain a position of overwhelming power.
The lies must stop and so must that racism. The lies hide a larger truth about what is taking place in the world around us.
These criminals must be brought to justice. And so must those who continue to justify this racism and lust for ultimate power. It is a sickness that is pervasive within our society and others, creating violence where there should be compassion and war where there should be peace.
The romance and comedy is a nice cushion to support the story. The truth has also to be told.
As with other books in the series, before the end comes in When Viewed Through Pain, the romance and comedy have met their match in the reality of the times we must all confront. But, let’s keep our fingers crossed, all will end on a hopeful note as well.
Because without hope we have nothing.

Interview with Penny Reid, Author of Drama King
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Drama King?
I wanted to write a hero with massive sunshine, golden retriever energy, and a heroine who was a career focused, pragmatic grump. While pondering these character archetypes and imagining all the different fun scenarios I could place them in, I decided being stranded during Christmas Eve in a shack during a Texas snowstorm (a la 2021) would make for some hilarious situations. Basically, I wanted to write a fun book, and that's what I (hope I) did.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Drama King, what would they be?
Cyrus would definitely be 'That's Life' by Frank Sinatra, and Bathsheba is 100% 'Bad Reputation' by Joan Jett.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
Over the summer, I read a ton of non-fiction biographies. Before that, I fell deep in an adult romantic fantasy hole. Last year, it was all science fiction all the time. Randomly, I'll check out AO3 for the fanfic recommendations, fandom doesn't matter, I just love the passion of fanfic writers. That said, I very rarely read anything similar to what I write (adult contemporary romantic comedy).
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
'Unknown Beloved' by Amy Harmon 'Happy Go Lucky' by David Sedaris 'The Three Musketeers' by Alexandre Dumas (buddy read in January with my 13 year old daughter).
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
Oh . . . this is a difficult question. Can I say any scene with the hero? I felt like he was a scene stealer. But if I had to choose one, there's a scene that takes place during the snowstorm where a rattlesnake's hibernation spot is revealed. That scene was so much fun.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I have to be wearing big, noise cancelling headphones in order to write. I typically don't listen to music, but the headphones have to be on my ears. Also, and perhaps this is TMI, but in order to write love scenes, I have to be tipsy. Sorry, not sorry. Keeping it real.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
In life: "Stay away from the normals." While writing: "You can't edit what you don't have written."
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Masculinity shouldn't always have to be associated with stoicism, just like femininity shouldn't always have to be associated with timidity.

Interview with Caridad Pineiro, Author of Lost in Little Havana
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Lost in Little Havana?
This is the first book in a new series - South Beach Security series. After writing a number of books set in the Pacific Northwest, I wanted a change of pace and thought setting a book in Miami would be really interesting. I've been able to visit there many times and hope to bring my real-life experiences in all the different areas, like Little Havana and South Beach, to readers.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Lost in Little Havana, what would they be?
I would definitely pick Unstoppable by Sia for the heroine since she's determined to find out who is behind a human trafficking ring and also trying to help the hero find out who killed his partner. For the hero, I'd pick one of my favs, namely Something Just Like This by the Chainsmokers featuring Coldplay.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love contemporary romances, especially ones set in small towns.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I have the latest books by J.D. Robb, Raeanne Thayne, and Nancy Naigle on my TBR pile.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
My favorite scene was the first encounter between the hero and heroine since they've both been in love with each other forever and now that they finally admit it, whoa! So hot, but also so tender and wonderful.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I don't write at a desk. I sit on my comfy futon, with my laptop, under a blanket and I always have the TV on.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I do, namely "Nothing worthwhile is every easy."
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That the important things in life are love, family, friends, and helping other.

Interview with Brendan O'Meara, Author of Cut From Stone
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Cut From Stone?
It really began with me thinking about how my friends and I would react to a Red Dawn situation and then the main character and supporting cast grew from there. I always got stuck in my head as a kid, thinking about what would happen if the world were to really fall apart. How would everyone respond? What would my friends and I do?
As I grew older, I wrote down some of the ideas on paper and started with writing a sequence from the third book in the series. After I read it over, I realized that if I wanted to tell a great story I would have to go back to the very beginning, so I kept the title and shifted the story back in time to flesh everything out more.
Just a mere ten years later I finally focused and finished Cut From Stone!
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Cut From Stone, what would they be?
I'd Love to Change the World by Ten Years After.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I do love to read my genre, but am a huge fan of history and historical fiction. I normally read any Erik Larson book and am a big fan of arctic, jungle, or any exploration between the late 18th and early 20th century.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
I'm reading 100 Years of Solitude and enjoying it a lot, but am reading it much slower than anticipated because I'm working on the second book for Crafting Humanity too and have an aggressive schedule I'm trying keep myself to. After that I will read Dead Mountain about the Dylatov Pass Incident, I've heard great things.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I loved writing the settings for the book. It was fun to go back in my memory to the places I based the book on and recreate them from my own perspective.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
Not really, I do find myself waking up at odd hours to jot something down and stuff, but nothing partiucarly strange.
Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?
I believe in the value of hard work and dedication to your craft. There's always something you can dream of doing, you just have to work to get there.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
The characters. They are the central focus of the book and I really care about how I created them, their personalities, and story arcs.
