Interview with Sam Cheever, Author of Fortune Croakies
16 Sep 2019
What can you tell us about your new release, Fortune Croakies?
Fortune Croakies is book two in a humorous paranormal cozy mystery series that’s based on a magical artifact librarian who has a Fae sidekick and a magical cat and frog. The book is filled with adventure, fun, and surprises, with magical creatures, a surprising artifact or two, and a mystery to solve.
What books are currently on your nightstand?
I’ve recently discovered a new urban fantasy author whose work I’m really enjoying. Hailey Edwards’ The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy books are uniquely fun, with a magical house and a fascinating world. I also just finished Ann Charles’ Deadwood series, which was a ton of fun!
What advice would you give your teenage self?
If I’d known then what I know now, I’d have started writing sooner. As it was, I didn’t really get serious about writing books until I was in my 30s. Though, if I had written books in my teens or early twenties, I probably would have written much darker stuff than I write now! LOL
If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?
Snuggling with my dogs. We rescue dogs and have 13 of the little (and not so little) darlings. #:0) They’re my family, my hobby and my entertainment now that my two daughters have their own homes.
What makes your world go round? Why does it bring you joy?
Spending time with family is something I treasure, both fur and human. #:0) I work hard, generally 7 days a week, and really don’t take time off for anything but family. Anything else I do that takes time away from my work leaves me resentful. Spending time with my family makes me feel rejuvenated.
What scene in Fortune Croakies was your favorite to write?
This would be the very first scene, the frog stuck in the sink drain scene. It still makes me giggle when I read it. To give you some idea of the fun, the chapter is entitled, Apple Trees and Frog Pee. #:0)
