Liveblog: Craziest Things about the New 50 Shades of Grey Book

new-50-shades-of-grey-book

The new 50 Shades of Grey book comes out on June 18th. There's a ton of buzz about it already, as well as a couple of crazy things. We'll be compiling all of the interesting tidbits about the book and the release (there are a bunch already!) through release date.

The Manuscript Got Stolen

50 Shades Fans are some of the most dedicated fans out there, so it's not surprising that the book was stolen from the Random House office in Kent, England. While many were afraid that the book would be leaked, GREY is still under wraps and set for the same release date. Read More ↦

The #AskELJames Twitter Chat Fiasco

If you weren't hiding under a rock today, twitter was a-buzz about the hashtag #AskELJames. This chat started as a way for EL to chat with her fans but turned into twitter throwing shade at the 50 Shades Queen.

Jimmy Fallon Made a Pros and Cons List About It

Just... watch. Our whole team is dying laughing at NewInBooksHQ.

It's already #1 on Amazon

Within 24 hours of being announced for pre-order, Grey was #1 on the books bestsellers list. EL James pushed out famed authors Harper Lee and Stephen King out of the top pre-order spots at the time.

The mixed reviews are pouring in

Bryony Gordon of The Telegraph calls Grey "Mr. Darcy with nipple clamps", while the New York Daily News thinks Christian is "a whiney wimp."

Someone is reading Grey and live-tweeting about it

Buzzfeed UK Editor Scott Bryan is "reading the new 50 Shades of Grey... so you don't have to" and tweeting the "worst" lines from Grey. While most of the lines are too explicit to post here, check out his twitter to see all of the (graphic) content.

She's following in Stephenie Meyer's footsteps...again

It's no secret that 50 Shades of Grey started out as a Twilight fan fic, and now James is taking another note from Meyer. In 2008, Meyer released a version of Twilight from Edward's point of view called "Midnight Sun." Hmmm, this sounds familiar. While Meyer planned to release the novel, the copy was leaked on the internet so she stopped writing Midnight Sun and unofficially published the most complete draft on her website.

There might be a Grey movie in the works

Even though the plotline for Grey and 50 Shades of Grey are exactly the same, there are talks that a Grey movie is in the pipeline. However the original actors, Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson, have not confirmed their involvement in the movie so at least that will  be different. Read More ↦

This book is dedicated to the readers

Remember those crazy, but dedicated, fans I mentioned earlier? Well they're the reason that James finally decided to write this book. Her past books have been dedicated, as most are, to her husband, children and parents.Read More ↦

Interview with Katie McGarry, author of Nowhere But Here

We are all about "taking risks and opening your heart", so we were super excited to reach out to Katie McGarry about her new release, Nowhere But Here.

Tell us a little bit about your new release, Nowhere But Here.

The Thunder Road series follows teens who are raised in a motorcycle club. Nowhere But Here is about Emily, a seventeen year old girl, who is forced to spend the summer with her estranged biological father who is in a motorcycle club and it is about Oz, an eighteen year old whose dream is to belong to the motorcycle club, but when he meets Emily, he begins to question the path he has chosen for his life.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was very young, I wanted to be the lead in the musical Annie. I can't sing and I can't dance, so that was problematic. 🙂

What's rocking your world this month?

The end of the school year! I have twelve year old twins and a ten year old and we are swamped in end of the year activities!

What’s the last book you read?

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon! It is amazing!

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

I enjoy writing on rainy days. I also love playing board games with my kids.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

For writing, the best advice I've received is that if I don't hurt while I'm writing, then I'm not writing the right thing. The same can be applied if I'm writing something funny. If I'm not writing something that makes me laugh, then I'm not writing the right thing. The idea is that I must feel the emotion I'm writing.

What's the last song that was stuck in your head?

Dark Horse by Katy Perry. It's a song that is on the playlist for Abby and Logan's story, Chasing Impossible, and I'm having a hard time getting it out of my head.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

"For with God nothing will be impossible." ~ Luke 1:37 NKJV

What's your favorite line from Nowhere But Here?

"This is your family," Olivia says to me. "If you learn to love us then you will forever have our love in return."

Interview with MG Reyes, author of Emancipated

Pretty Little Liars fans get ready to read your next favorite book. Emancipated by M.G. Reyes is all of the edgy drama that we love in a YA novel, so we reached out to learn more:

Tell us a little bit about your new release, Emancipated.

EMANCIPATED is a story about what happens when six very different teenagers move into a beach house together after emancipation from their parents. "The bad boy, the good girl, the diva, the hustler, the rocker, and the nerd. Six teens legally liberated from parental control for six different reasons, but all with one thing in common: something to hide."
Over the series mysteries will unravel, secrets will be disclosed and the past will catch up with some of the characters with cataclysmic consequences for all six teenagers.

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

Well, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, obviously. I'd be ever so good too, and only take modest amounts of everything yummy.

What makes your world go round?

Story. Wish I could say otherwise but it's just the way I am. I live for stories - mine and other people's.

Where is your favorite spot in Oxford?

Favourite spot - the Broad. It's a beautiful street in the heart of the ancient university where you'll find bookshops, pubs, colleges and the Bodleian Library.

What is the last song that was stuck in your head?

Kathleen by Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Which book from your childhood or teenage years has stuck with you as an adult?

A Crowded Hour with William by Richmal Crompton. She wrote lots of books about William Brown and that's one of the funniest. It still makes me laugh so hard I can hardly get through reading it to my kids.

If you had to pick one place to vacation for the rest of your life, where would you choose?

Andalucía, in the south of Spain.

What's your favorite line from Emancipated?

Probably one of Candace's snarky comebacks, to be honest. I'd wanted to make her a super-foul-mouthed diva. I've met a few people who work in television and also some actors and for some reason they're the sweariest people I know! But the YA audience for EMANCIPATED meant I really had to pull back on that. So I decided that given that she's a Shakespeare fangirl, she's got a thing for Elizabethan curses of the type that Shakespeare used. She's a down-to-earth type of girl when all is said and done, but she does have this one quirk.

The line is: "The word on the street, Master Paolo, is that thou art nothing but a goatish knave."

Do you have a quote or philosophy that you live by?

Like most Christians (I'm a Roman Catholic) I try to live by Jesus's commandment to 'love thy neighbor'. Luckily, my neighbors are lovely! But I think it goes beyond and requires us to put something directly and personally into caring for people who aren't our family, as well as the family. Easier said that done, of course.

Do you have a favorite local bookstore we can give a shoutout to?

Yes! Please give a shoutout to my friend Caroline's store the Book Mart in Starkville, Mississippi http://bookmartandcafe.com/
