Interview with Marin Montgomery, author of The Girl That Got Away

What can you tell us about your new release, The Girl That Got Away?

The book is loosely based on my childhood hometown and an event that happened to me as a twelve-year-old when I was having a tent sleepover during the summer. I did live on a dead-end street across from a trailer court, cemetery, and a strip club, yet only the cemetery remains. It didn’t result in a kidnapping, but it did result in the what if’s

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

  • You by Caroline Kepnes
  • Still Missing by Chevy Stevens
  • The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
  • The Jungle by Upton Sinclair
  • The Memory Watcher by Minka Kent

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I’ve been writing since I was in elementary school—song lyrics or poems and short stories. I’ve started writing many books and then stopped. It was a personal goal, and my best friend and mentor showed me that this was attainable. I’m so lucky to have her as not only a friend but as a mentor. Thanks, Minka Kent!

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I have an overactive imagination, and I’m constantly thinking of situations or events that should and could be stories. I love to bring characters to life and see what happens as I'm developing them.

BAM. You're a superhero. What's your superpower?

I would have the ability to read minds, though I think that would drive me crazy, always wondering why people thought the way they did and what they thought of what I said or did!

How do you like to spend a rainy day?

The perfect rainy day involves a good book, my guilty pleasure of The Real Housewives of Orange County or Married at First Sight or binge-watching re-runs of The Office. Dashiell, my Goldendoodle would be there to make sure I got off the couch and took him for a walk when the clouds parted!

What scene in The Girl That Got Away was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write was the kidnapping because of what happened that summer when I slept in the tent. I was able to visualize the scene perfectly in my mind because of how I felt during those moments when you didn't know if a stranger was going to stay or leave.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

My trainer, Jeremy Scott, has a couple mantras that are simple and they resonate with me.

Until next time, eat well, train hard, and be nice to people.

The other one is

We aren't here to just pay bills and die which is great advice when you're following your passion.

The Story Behind Mountain Billionaire by Eva Luxe

By Eva Luxe

I usually write billionaires and I enjoy that but I've also enjoyed the mountain man trend.

That made me think, what if there was a billionaire who fled a life of luxury for a secluded life in the woods?

In this book, Zach tries to run from his father even though it means giving up his fortune.

But once he meets Paige, he's forced to confront his past in multiple ways.

I really like how the couple helps each other overcome obstacles and move from isolation to normal life.

But, Zach still maintains the rugged, strong mountain man persona that Paige fell in love with, even though she helps him change for the better in other ways, and that's my favorite thing about this book.

Interview with Lisa Blackwood, author of In Deception's Shadow

What can you tell us about your new release, In Deception's Shadow?

In Deception’s Shadow is an action-packed Epic Fantasy Romance series featuring strong heroines and noble heroes. Even though each installment wraps up the romance between the hero and heroine for that book, this is a true epic fantasy world filled with fantastical creatures, dark powers, and a continuing story arc from book to book as the main characters journey to find the Twelve Talismans lost to time and defeat the evil Priests of the Revealing Light.

What's the last book you read?

I actually just started Blood for Stone by Logan Snyder. It’s a futuristic Urban Fantasy series set in the city-state of Meridia, where the citizens--a mix of Humans, Vampires, Gargoyles, and a bunch of other cool critters—find their fragile peace threatened when acts of violence rock the city.

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

I’d absolutely love to visit Middle-Earth, (Well, the parts without orc and evil overlords.)

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I can’t actually pinpoint the exact moment I decided to become an author. But I’ve been writing since I was thirteen. Actually, likely earlier than that, but I was thirteen when I first started drafting book one of In Deception’s Shadow. It’s changed a great deal since that time, but I guess I’ve always wanted to become an author. It’s something in my heart that won’t be denied.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I love creating worlds and unique characters with interesting powers and watching as their journeys and relationships unfold. And let’s admit it, sometimes the villains are just as much fun to write.

BAM. You're a superhero. What's your superpower?

Typing really fast?

What scene in In Deception's Shadow was your favorite to write?

It’s always the next book, the next scene, the next character to be written into being.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

I always get what I want in the end. If I work hard enough. LOL.
