Interview with Lali A. Love, Author of The Decoding of Jo: Blade of Truth

What can you tell us about your new release, The Decoding of Jo: Blade Of Truth?

Thank you very much for this opportunity to showcase my new release. In the second book of the Ascending Angel Academy Series, the journey to enlightenment hastens as the eternal struggle between good and evil intensifies in parallel timelines. The De-Coding of Jo: Blade of Truth, examines the concepts of telepathy, shapeshifting, and time travel to understand the history behind the Galactic Battles between the sacred Light and Dark forces since the beginning of time. The main character, Jo, has to fulfill her second mission on Earth to pass the hall of learning stage of ascension and mastery while saving Mother Earth from being hijacked by malevolent entities.

The book incorporates self-realization modalities while dissolving the veil of judgment, toxicity, and eradicating mind control systems with the truth and emotional healing, clearing timelines and old grid patterns with ancient stargate light codes.

After Jo graduates from the first stage of the Angel Academy, Hall of Ignorance, she begins to discover her supernatural magical powers of clairvoyance. She realizes that Roma, a celestial Custodian of the Galaxy, has been captured and imprisoned on a remote island by dark Lizzie forces.

She telepathically communicates with Jo to guide her perilous mission activated by the StarSeed Quest. On a school trip to the Canary Islands, Jo and her friends discover that the Wizard of Bondage was operating a human trafficking ring as part of their sinister Lizzie agenda to hijack humanity’s existence in the astral realm with psychic warfare.

While Jo and her friends learn the truth about the Ancient Galactic Wars, they are targeted by wicked shape-shifting assassins and lured to a private compound where darkness reigns. Emotions, Reality, and Timelines collide as Jo is thrust into the center of an epic cosmic reboot. Will the Blade of Truth devour her Soul? Will the balance between light and dark finally shift?

What or who inspired you to become an author?

As a multi-genre writer, my mission is to enlighten, empower, and entertain my readers through relatable storytelling. I like to bridge metaphysical concepts with visionary fiction and to write inspirational and thought-provoking stories. My novels aim to serve as a catalyst for changing conversations about sensitive subject matter around childhood wounding such as abuse, rejection, loss, mental health, codependency, addictions, and feelings of unworthiness.

The prevalent themes of my fictional books are transformation, overcoming tragedy, self-love, forgiveness, and empowerment. I believe that it’s important to relay gripping stories that include diverse, inclusive relatable characters who undergo their internal struggles to heal the shadows within, as the protagonists fight evil with their eternal light force energy.

My books examine the fundamental nature of reality, existence, and the power of the Universal Laws of Energy. Through the use of metaphysics and energy transmutation, the protagonists expose evil out of the shadows and bring the truth into the light with self-love, vulnerability, and acceptance, to live in freedom, peace, and in harmony with the Universe.

In my daytime job, I have the pleasure and honor of working with our indigenous people who have relayed their cultural struggles and childhood obstacles. I have also met and worked with many incredible, resilient Souls in the LGBTQ2+ community that has gripped my heart, increased my knowledge, understanding, and empathy by elevating my awareness of their experiences. These incredible warriors triggered my own self-healing journey and inspired me to write empowering stories that illuminate humanity’s darkness.

The De-Coding of Jo: Hall of Ignorance is my first novel in the young adult category. It is a meld of fantasy, paranormal and science fiction, with a strong appeal to all readers (ages 14 years+). It is the first book of the Ascending Angel Academy series, released on August 1, 2020. It incorporates plot-driven and coming-of-age stories of diverse, gender-inclusive teenagers struggling with self-identity and a sense of belonging. I was inspired by our intuitive youth to shine a light on societal issues such as anxiety, trauma, depression, bullying, body dysmorphia, and external dependencies through my fictional cast.I am an advocate for children, women, equality, and self-healing journeys. I believe that we are all connected through the powerful energetic force of love. So, every book I write reflects my insights and philosophical experiences which may resonate with my readers.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

I have read so many incredible books over the past few decades, it’s difficult to narrow it down to the top five. Since publishing my debut novel, Heart of a Warrior Angel on July 31, 2019, I have supported the writing community on Twitter and devoured incredible novels by talented indie and self-published authors.

But if I had to choose the most memorable books for me, I will have to say that some of the classics that have impacted me as a youth were “Anna Karenina” and “War and Peace” by Leo Tolstoy, “East of Eden” by John Steinman, “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, and my childhood favorite, “Around the World in Eighty Days” by Jules Verne. Throw in some books from Dan Brown, Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Stephen King, Tom Clancy, and you’ll know what to expect from my eclectic private library collection.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would love to interview Shakespeare, but from our current timeline, it would have to be the New York Times, best-selling author, Dan Brown. I’m a huge fan of his books The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons. There is so much wealth of information and research that went into those books. I would love to ask him how he managed to tackle the philosophical and scientific bedrocks of a higher existence, written with an action-packed plot and fascinating character development.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I really enjoy structuring scenes with multi-dimensional settings that enable the character development and motivations. It’s important for me to maintain good pacing as I showcase multiple point of views, exploring their unique emotional journeys. I put myself in the reader’s mind as I develop the gripping conflict with a slow burn, ensuring that each scene takeaway keeps the reader hooked throughout the book to visualize the resolution. It’s incredible to take the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride as they take the time to submerge themselves into my magical and empowering realms.

For example, in The De-Coding of Jo: Blade of Truth, I really enjoyed outlining the epic plot where the stakes are high, the world is in peril, and the conflict disrupts Jo’s storyline with disillusionment of her emotional vortex. The action-packed scenes in chapter 11, Cosmic Reboot, and chapter 12, The Great Escape, bringing Jo and Roma face to face with the shapeshifting Lizzie, the Wizard of Bondage, in a colossal battle between good and evil.

What is a typical day like for you?

During the day, I work full time as a senior advisor, assisting in government policy and strategy development for vulnerable populations. I have always loved writing through briefings and presentations, especially focusing on cohesive storytelling. It’s a passion and a creative outlet that I have had since I was a child. In fact, my mom recently reminded me that I used to write her poetry when I was 6 or 7 years old, which I have totally forgotten!

With a full time, job, I try to focus on my writing projects primarily on the weekends. I can be on the computer for 5 or 6 hours, letting the inspiration guide me. Since I’m a plotter, I like to start with the book title and table of contents when I outline the plot structure, the initiating incidents, developmental arc, crisis, and resolution. Then I develop the character arcs, breathing life into each protagonist and antagonist. Normally, when I’m in the writing flow, I don’t realize the amount of time that goes by. As long as I have my bowel of skittles to sustain me, then I’m happy!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Each of my incarnated angel novel incorporates a consistent logo on the back of the book to highlight my signature brand, with the motto “Turn on Your Inner Light and Illuminate the World”. I also write uplifting and empowering poetry books, where I share my philosophy of life, with the following quote:

“When we operate from the space of heart-centered consciousness, every Soul becomes our mirror and our teacher. We are all connected within this web of radiant life force energy called Love.” —Lali A. Love

Interview with John Coon, Author of Dark Metamorphosis

What can you tell us about your new release, Dark Metamorphosis?

Dark Metamorphosis is the second book in the Alien People Chronicles, my science fiction series detailing the adventures of Calandra Menankar and Xttra Oogan. It is set one year after the events of Alien People, the first book in the series. Calandra and Xttra are still dealing with the aftermath of making first contact with Earth when Xttra is abducted by agents from an enemy nation. Calandra is drawn into a conspiracy that threatens her life while searching for her missing husband. Meanwhile, Xttra is forced into an alliance with an old Earthian foe as he tries to find a way back home.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

My mother was a major source of inspiration. She fostered a love of reading in me at an early age. I always had an active imagination as a child and started writing stories at age 12. Those first stories centered around a litter of mischievous kittens and their adventures. I based the characters on pet cats my family had at the time. I gained a deep love of storytelling at that early age and made it a goal to become an author.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

So many books I could rattle off that are worthy to count among the best. It's tough to pick out only five to slide into that category. I'll go with some of my favorite authors instead. I enjoy stories from classic authors like Jack London, Mark Twain, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Edgar Allan Poe. Closer to modern times, I've enjoyed the fiction of C.S. Lewis, Michael Crichton, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Phillip K. Dick, and Ray Bradbury.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would love to talk to Stephen King. He's such a prolific author. It's rare that one genre becomes so synonymous with a single author like horror has with King. It would be fascinating to get some insights into his creative process and what drives him to keep creating so many stories after all this time.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I love building new worlds. It's so much fun to dive into my imagination and create characters, history, mythology, culture, and other elements from scratch. My stories are rooted deeply in these explorations. My characters and fictional worlds are as familiar to me as a family member or close friend.

What is a typical day like for you?

It starts and ends with tons of writing. I work as a sports journalist at my regular job, so I'm busy most of the year reporting on the NBA, college sports, and winter sports. When I'm not engaged in doing those things, I'm either planning out, writing, or editing a novel or short story. I do take breaks to occasionally go on a hike or go watch a movie. Most of the time, I push myself to stay focused on creating stories because I eventually want to make a full-time living from being a fiction author.

What scene from Dark Metamorphosis was your favorite to write?

I don’t want to give away any huge spoilers, but my favorite scene is a conversation between Calandra and Kevin when he unexpectedly turns up at her place several months after fleeing from the planet Lathos. Deep emotions are in play for both characters during this reunion. Kevin sacrificed his life on Earth to save Calandra and Xttra in Alien People and felt like both abandoned him in his hour of need. Calandra is in a dark place mentally and emotionally after Xttra's abduction. It was fun to explore the dynamic between these friends and see how their relationship evolved since the first book.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Life without imagination or creativity is hollow. I truly subscribe to that philosophy. You learn so much about yourself through creative expression and you leave a mark on the world around you through stories. There is no joy in embracing the status quo.

Interview with Rachel Amphlett, Author of A Darker Place

What can you tell us about your new release, A Darker Place?

This is probably one of the hardest books I’ve written to date, simply due to having such a strange murder pop into my head for the opening scene, and then trying to work out how the hell it happened!

I’m always inspired by current events and although I haven’t mentioned the past horrendous 12 months everyone’s been through, I have been intrigued about some of the things that were once perhaps considered niche that have now become part of everyday life. I won’t give too much away, but I do like to get readers wondering what really goes on behind closed doors of those everyday situations we take for granted.

A Darker Place is the tenth book in the Kay Hunter series but can be enjoyed as a standalone, so if readers haven’t met her and her close-knit team yet, this is a great place to start.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I was a reader first, and started reading before I was in infant school thanks to my parents (and the local library!) so by the time I was about seven or eight I was already scribbling down my first attempts at stories.

I think I just needed to absorb a lot of my favourite genre (crime fiction) before having the confidence to take it seriously though, and once I started, I couldn’t stop.

I’ve been publishing now for ten years, and can’t wait to see what characters I meet over the next ten and beyond.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

This is so hard to answer, as I’d love to include more! I’m always discovering new classics, books I know I’ll read more than once, but these seem to be stalwarts in my library. I’ve read these over and over, and always learn something new:

  • John Grisham - The Pelican Brief
  • Michael Connelly - Angels Flight
  • Robert Harris - Archangel
  • Robert Crais - LA Requiem
  • Lee Child - Bad Luck and Trouble

What's your favorite thing about writing?

Everything – I’m doing something I could only dream of when I was eight years old, and it’s the best job in the world!

I love the research part of writing crime fiction too because I’m always finding out something new, and I’ve learned to trust my characters – as long as I follow my detectives and don’t get in their way, they usually catch the bad guy 🙂

Interview with James B. Cohoon, Author of Bad Medicine

What can you tell us about your new release, Bad Medicine?

Bad Medicine is the sequel to last year's Do No Harm, which won the 2020 American Fiction Award in the medical thriller category. Bad Medicine can be read as a stand-alone novel, but it continues the story of Matthew and Torrey, two young doctors who make it their mission to dole out vigilante justice to bad doctors practicing bad medicine. In this page turning suspense sequel, Matthew and Torrey learn of a friend's young niece who has fallen victim to a doctor who is running a phony cancer treatment center. Putting their careers and their new marriage in jeopardy, they agree to help their friend's family seek the ultimate revenge.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I always aspired to write a thriller novel, but 35 years of practicing law and a wonderful family got in the way. After retirement, writing the novel and having it published by a traditional publisher were high on my bucket list.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

I love all of Michael Crichton books and early John Grisham. And of course, Lee Child and James Patterson.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would have loved to ask Crichton how he thought of the premise for Jurassic Park.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

My favorite thing about writing thrillers is figuring out how all the pieces will come together in the end. The overarching challenge in Bad Medicine was to balance the relative darkness and moral ambiguity of vigilante doctors with the goal of a light entertaining read. My favorite part about writing this book was when I figured out how to achieve, I hope, that goal.

What is a typical day like for you?

My typical day is to hang out with family, walk, and write. Until the last 100 pages, I seem to spend more time thinking and outlining than writing--maybe 2-3 hours per day. In the last 100 pages, I know how everything is going to play out so I write as many hours as possible until I have a good draft. Then comes the editing.

What scene from Bad Medicine was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write in Bad Medicine was the last one where all the loose ends are tied up. I like clarity when I read thrillers so I try to give that to my readers.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Everyone in my family knows that I do not let grass grow under my feet. I want to be productive every day doing something. If not writing, then playing with my grandchildren, mowing the lawn, or anything that will give me a feeling of accomplishment.

The Story Behind Hope Ignites by E. A. Chance

By E.A. Chance

Long before any of us imagined a Covid-19 world, I began to wonder what life on Earth would be like in the aftermath of a massive solar flare. My Shattered Sunlight Series is the result. I never dreamed I’d be creating this story smack in the middle of a global pandemic. It was eerie how close to reality the situations I was writing hit at times. Fortunately, real life is nowhere near as dire as what Dr. Riley Poole and company faced, and thankfully, we real-life humans see an end in sight.

That’s not the case for Riley. Hope Ignites is the third book in the Shattered Sunlight Series and is the culmination of our heroine’s long, arduous journey. The story picks up two years after a global Coronal Mass Ejection strikes Earth, decimating the human population and destroying all vestiges of modern technological life. Riley has all she could want in her world, except for her missing daughter Julia. When Riley receives news that Julia is alive in an internment camp on hostile soil, she abandons her post with a field medical unit and races to Julia’s rescue. When old enemies resurface, she runs into more trouble than she can handle. With the aid of old companions and new, she regains hope of rescuing Julia. It will take every ounce of Riley’s courage and grit to complete her quest in time.

The character of Riley comes from a place where I believe most of us are capable of far more than we realize. I’ve pondered many times on how living through the pandemic has forced us to discover an inner reserve we didn’t know existed. Friends and family members have described being pushed to the edge, then finding the strength to continue or even thrive. Isn’t this the essence of life, growing, learning, overcoming? We all possess that inner superhero. It’s only a matter of conquering our fears and tapping into it.
