Interview with Lindsay Buroker, Author of The Elf Tangent

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Elf Tangent?

I tend to write series with big overarching storylines and lots of characters, but I'm a big fan of SF/F romance stories too. And I've long enjoyed stories about elves. The Lord of the Rings kind, not the Keebler kind. It was fun to return to my roots to write an elf romance.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Science fiction, romance, and fantasy romance!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I'm reading The Widow of Rose House, which is a historical romance with a hint of the paranormal, and I've just downloaded samples for a number of high fantasy romances. I guess I'm in the mood for love!

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The hero and heroine have a quiet moment and a lot of fun dialogue when he's recovering from an injury and a little loopy on elven pain medicine. I always have lots of action and adventure in my stories, but the quiet moments are my favorites to write.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I'm pretty boring, but I write on my laptop and not always at a desk, so I often end up with a dog head slung across my arm or the keys. This can make things a little challenging.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Unwise actions in the past can make the future challenging, but there's always hope.

Interview with Greg Dragon, Author of Neon Eclipse

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Neon Eclipse?

I’ve always wanted to write a story about a crime family in the future, using the more colorful, entertaining elements of the gangsters of today, merging it with a world torn apart by war, plague, and capitalism, and have it be something of a coming-of-age.

Neon Eclipse is that story, interspersed with a bit of parody and homage to the cyberpunk stories in film and literature that made me fall in love with the genre. It is an exciting start to something new, and I hope readers enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Neon Eclipse, what would they be?

Jackson Cole, the title character, is the “kill by day, chill at the back of the bar at night,” type of assassin. He fights hard and loves even harder, so an appropriate theme song, I believe, would be the Ella Fitzgerald version of the song, Black Coffee.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love reading, watching, and playing all sorts of Science Fiction, but I primarily read historical fiction.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

A Fine Retribution by Dewey Lambdin, A Bond Undone by Jin Yong, and From Staircase to Stagy by Raekwon.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

There is a scene in the third or fourth chapter where Jackson runs into another assassin, and they have a chat about their last set of jobs. The way they compliment, gibe, and inform one another using the inner-city slang turned out very well, in my opinion.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

From Hagakure by Yamamoto Tsunetomo. “The end is important in all things.” It reminds me to let things go, finish up, and move on. I love that quote and try to remember it when I obsess. Writers obsess; this helps me to stop doing that.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Case City, California, the birthplace of Jackson Cole, is fictional, but it could be any of our cities if we don’t start being better to one another and the planet. I write dark, violent stories to show how the best of us persevere. I hope, if anything, what you leave with after reading this story is an appreciation of family, even when said family isn’t of your blood, gender, or race.

Interview with Lane Cohen, Author of Borrowed Time

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Borrowed Time?

When I was a kid, my dad took me to see the 1960 version of The Time Machine, and I remember thinking that the prop machine in the film was just about the coolest thing in the world. Recently that film was shown on TGM. I watched it again and wondered whatever happened to that machine? And I immediately thought of a story in which the machine survived to present day, and is converted into a real time machine by a professor of advanced physics.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Borrowed Time, what would they be?

The theme song from the film, Silverado.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Sci-fi, especially time travel.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

It Happened in Silence, The Last Flight, and One Year After.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

When our time travelers from present day face down with real outlaws in a 1879 old west saloon.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

My dog is almost always with me. He helps me focus and grounds me.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

"The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it." - Moliere

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Your memory of past events is the greatest time machine of all.

Interview with Keishi Ando, Author of Wings and Windows

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Wings and Windows?

The first line of the story just come to me as I wrote it down!

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Wings and Windows, what would they be?

The Ave Maria Piano Solo would be the theme song for the characters in Wings and Windows.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Fantasy, Romance, Literary Fiction are my favorite to read, and yes, they are also my favorite to write.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The dream scenes were my favorite to write.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I like to write in complete silence.
