Interview with Lisa Shay, Author of Undercover Kittens

26 Jan 2022

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Undercover Kittens?

Undercover Kittens is the third in the Pet Communicator Cozy Mystery series, (already well into book 4). Years ago, I told my sister about a book idea I had. A veterinarian who communicates with animals and helps solve crimes. Well, she kept bugging me about writing the book, so I did! Thanks to my sister!

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Undercover Kittens, what would they be?

I listen to KLove so…

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Oh my gosh, a favorite? I read everything. Eclectic I guess!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Six-Minute X-Ray: Rapid Behavior Profiling by Chase Hughes, Fortitude by Dan Crenshaw, Redemption by David Baldacci, Sasquatch by Jeff Meldrum, Pit Perfect Murder by Renee George, And Then There Were Crumbs by Eve Calder.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

No spoiler, but the scene where Oliver gives up a secret!

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I like to have the TV on. Something mindless. It’s like white noise for me. Can’t write with a radio on, though!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Always be kind.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Animals have feelings, are funny, compassionate, and are smarter than we think.
