Interview with Nikki Jefford, author of Born Wild

What can you tell us about your new release, Born Wild?

It’s a tale of tragedy, loss, and second chances. Wolfrik, the pack’s last living pureblooded wolf shifter, has been through hell. It appears he’ll never overcome his past and be capable of giving or receiving love. Then there’s Kallie, another damaged soul, who has to deal with the unwanted advances of one of the pack’s elders. She, too, is convinced that her physical wounds mean there’s no hope of ever claiming a mate of her own. Meanwhile, a runaway from the human world is about to shake things up in the hollow.

BAM. You're a superhero. What's your superpower?

Luck—the kind Zazie Beetz’s character Domino has in “Deadpool 2.” But I’d want to transfer it to other people. Anyone deserving, and in need, could contact me and say, “Hey, Nikki, I’m down on my luck.” And I’d reply, “No, prob, let me fix that for you!”

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

Five all-time favorites include: 1) A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas; 2) Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling; 3) Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin; 4) Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin; and 5) Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

Sarah J. Maas. “How do you do it? Seriously, what do you eat, read, and do as part of your daily routine to be such a brilliant storyteller?”

What's your favorite thing about writing?

Getting the opportunity to make new friends, visit new places, fall in love, (be sarcastic), and save the day over and over again.

What's on your writing desk?

It’s barebones: Computer, Echo Dot, Kleenex (ultra soft), desk lamp, Passion Planner, unicorn pen, coaster, and a mug of tea.

What scene in Born Wild was your favorite to write?

I’m not going to lie, I love the sexy scenes! Writing that first heated exchange between the hero and heroine is particularly fun. In Born Wild, Wolfrik leaps on top of Kallie as she’s attempting to flee the hollow on four legs at night. She bites him. They shift. There’s nakedness. Sarcasm. And heat. It’s the beginning of their attraction, friendship, and the love to come. I love reading and writing those gateway moments.

If you’d like to read their scene, it’s included in the first three chapters preview available to download free here: http://nikkijefford.com/born-wild-preview/

Interview with Emma Calin, author of Seduction of Wealth

What can you tell us about your new release, Seduction of Wealth?

Seduction of Wealth’ is the latest episode in my series of stand-alone suspense romance novels, the seventh book in ‘The Seduction Series’. It follows a theme of  strong female cops who encounter international crime and who fall in love along the way. ‘Seduction of Wealth’ features characters from previous books – who you would recognize if you’d read other books in the series, however each story is completely stand-alone.

In ‘Seduction of Wealth’ a London traffic cop, Kaitlyn Thorn, encounters cheeky billionaire city banker Randolph Quinn, a man on the run from his Mafia clients. When it becomes clear that sources within the police could have gone bad, she is forced to flee with him across Europe to destroy their enemies. In parallel to the police action, Kaitlyn responds strongly, both emotionally and physically to her companion. Randolph is drawn to her, he admires her courage and no-nonsense attitude.   Their physical love finds expression on exclusive private luxury yachts and in his exclusive 747.  Randolph appears to act with impunity, but her own bosses tell her to trust him and stick with him. As the shoot-outs and bodies mount up, she has to follow her conscience as a cop, rather than her heart and body as a woman.    In New York, the tale receives a twist that leads them to a final showdown in Rome. It’s cops and slobbers international!

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I had an inspirational teacher in my teens who encouraged me to write.  I’ve never stopped.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

‘Animal Farm’ by George Orwell, ‘Lord of the Flies’ by William Golding, ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ by Thomas Hardy, ‘On the Beach’ Neville Shute, ‘Brave New World’ by Aldus Huxley and ‘Bonjour Tristesse’ by Francoise Sagan.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would love to interview Edith Piaf – French singer and songwriter. I’m a big fan of her work and it was from singing her songs that I learned to speak French. I’d like to ask her about her song lyrics, which are very often about tragic love. She wrote most of the lyrics herself – based on her own life experiences. If you don’t know Edith Piaf, I’d recommend the film “La Vie en Rose”.  An amazing self-made woman.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

My favorite thing is creating characters and developing plots with them.  I love to write stories with twists and turns, so you don’t find out what’s really going on until the very end.

What is a typical day like for you?

It depends where I am. I split my time between France and England.  I like to write every day and tend to write early in the morning and early in the evening.  That leaves the daytime free for physical activity....  by which I mean cycling and kayaking, of course!  When I’m in France my partner and I explore the quiet lanes in Charente Maritime on our tandem bike.  When it’s really hot we take to the river on our tandem kayak. We live in a tiny town in South West France called St Savinien sur Charente.  It’s peaceful and a good place to work. At night it’s very, very, dark as all the windows have shutters. If you open your eyes, you see and hear nothing – you wonder if you’re really awake or still asleep, or even still alive.  When in England, life is much busier. Between us we have seven children and four grandchildren, so there are plenty of family activities and duties to keep us occupied.  I still aim to write every day. Often we’re in the UK in the winter and there are fewer outdoor opportunities, so I get more writing done during the dark, wet and chillier months. Essentially living in two countries means I always have a big sense of the differences between places which I try to infuse into my stories

What scene in Seduction of Wealth was your favorite to write?

Kaitlyn and Randolph leave London on the Thames, via Tower Bridge, on his luxury yacht.  They had champagne and made love  - I was with them all the way!

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Yes I do: “If you’re not on top of the job – the job’s on top of you”
