Interview with Emily Bishop, author of Cuffing Her

What can you tell us about your new release, Cuffing Her?

It’s one of my favorites because it’s about a cop and a criminal. I love playing with tough relationships, where the two main characters aren’t sure they can trust each other.

What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?

I want to say Game of Thrones, but it’s kind of terrifying. So what about going back to meet Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice? Lizzy won’t stand a chance, haha.

What books are currently on your nightstand?

Oh gosh, I’m always so busy writing. Currently, I’m reading Defiant Queen by Meghan March. Loving it! It’s super sexy.

You're hosting a literary dinner party. Which three writers are invited?

James Patterson – sold the most books worldwide.

R.R. Banks – he’s killing it – love his stories.

Jill Mansell – love her British traditional romance vibe.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

That I can do it anytime I want and that no matter what the words are always there for me, even when no one else is.

What's on your writing desk?

Bluetooth keyboard, a decorative box in which I keep candies for snack time – naughty, naughty – and pomegranate and rosehip oil hand cream (got to keep these hands lubed up, haha).

What scene in Cuffing Her was your favorite to write?

Don’t want to spoil it, but the second chapter was so fun because it was full of tension and there was this lovely push and pull between the two main characters. They’re really up in each other’s business. Oh! And the first sexy time between them. It was so hot, if I do say so myself.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Trust them until they're gone.

Interview with Elizabeth Meyette, author of Love's Courage

What can you tell us about your new release, Love's Courage?

Love’s Courage is book three in The Brentwood Saga set during the American Revolution. Here is a peek at what happens:

She had to leave him to save her father. He had to follow her to save his heart.

Jenny Sutton leaves Williamsburg, Virginia and Andrew Wentworth, the man she loves, and sets sail for British occupied Manhattan to tend to her dying father. Aboard the Destiny, Jonathon Brentwood makes a request of Jenny that will entangle her in the network of spies serving the Patriot cause. With her father already under suspicion, Jenny’s activities must be hidden from the watchful eyes of British troops. But she has caught the eye of British officer Lieutenant Nigel Ashby, who is aware of her sympathies, yet offers her protection through marriage. Only by accepting his proposal will Jenny avoid the hangman's noose … and lose Andrew forever.

Desperate to join—and protect—Jenny, Andrew Wentworth agrees to deliver messages to Patriot troops on his journey to New York. His route brings him face to face with those suffering under British rule. The fight for independence and his desire to reach Jenny become intertwined. Arriving in Manhattan, Andrew is arrested as a spy by the British officer coercing Jenny into marriage. She may be saved from the gallows, but will Andrew?

As war rages around them, Jenny and Andrew must find the courage to fight for their new country's freedom and their own eternal love.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

Well, I used to teach high school English, so many of my favorites are the classics:

  1. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  2. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
  3. Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury
  4. Gone with Wind by Margaret Mitchell
  5. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Hands down. I know it’s so cliché, but I love those two. Her fiery independence and his inability to help himself from falling in love.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

My first guest would be Harper Lee. I would ask her if she really wanted Go Set a Watchman published.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I love it when my writing surprises me. When a character does something unexpected, or there’s a twist in the story I wasn’t expecting. For example, once there was a knock on the door in a scene. I didn’t know who it was, but I had a guess. When my heroine answered the door, it was a character I’d never expected to show up in the story again. Since I’m a “pantser” (I write by the seat of my pants rather than with an outline) this happens frequently, and I actually feel gleeful (Yes, I even clap my hands).

What scene in Love's Courage was your favorite to write?

I love the scene where Andrew and Jenny are first reunited. She’s disguised as a boy because she’s delivering a message for the spy ring. At one point, she can’t figure out why he’s not getting romantic with her. He teases her saying she looks like a lad. She pulls off her hat, freeing her hair to flow down around her shoulders and, … well, that takes care of that.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Yes. “She believed she could, so she did.”

Interview with Kira Blakely, author of Delivering Her Secret

What can you tell us about your new release, Delivering Her Secret?

It’s a steamy take on a doctor-patient relationship, in a way. It’s about two people from totally different backgrounds finding what they lack in each other.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I was inspired by the greats in contemporary romance. LJ Shen inspires me, in particular.

Who are your literary heroes working today? Why do you admire them?

Wow, there are so many, it’s hard to name just a few. As I said, LJ Shen – that’s because of the depth of her characters and the way she pushes boundaries at times. I’m also a fan of Adriana Locke – I love how she writes men! And, of course, my girl Emily Bishop.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

That it’s real even if you don’t believe it is. The characters are so real. They’re right alongside you throughout the book.

What's a typical day like for you?

Coffee, write, repeat – with some exercise thrown in at the end of the day. I’m really driven about getting the words down on the page.

BAM. You're a superhero. What's your superpower?

Ooo, I’m now able to make anyone stop fighting and fall in love. Kind of like Cupid.

What scene in Delivering Her Secret was your favorite to write?

I loved writing them all, but I really enjoyed writing the first sex scene between the two main characters, just because they were connecting on a deeper level and it was such a big thing for Charlie (Charlotte) since she was about to lose her virginity. (I think secretly some of us women want a redo of that moment and I enjoyed making it all she could ever want out of her first time).
