Interview with Willow Rose, author of Order and Chaos
What can you tell us about your new release, Order and Chaos?
It's the 9th book in my series and we are finally beginning to get some answers to who the killer is and to whom our main character will choose to be with. Will it be Duncan, the vampire, or Jayden the soon to be werewolf?
If you woke up in the world of The Vampires of Shadow Hills, what is the first thing you would do?
I would run to Amy’s house and have her show me her dragon, then ask if I could ride on her back. Then I would have her cook me a meal, because she’s really good at cooking.
Which book from your childhood or teenage years has stuck with you as an adult?
All of Jules Verne’s works. I love the great imagination and technical details.
If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?
Probably writing lol. Or being with my children. They grow up so fast.
What's your spirit animal?
An owl, no doubt.
Where did you write Order and Chaos?
At home, sitting by my desk, drinking coffee.
What scene in Order and Chaos was your favorite to write?
There was a lot. It has been such a fun series to write so far. But my favorite was probably when Jayden comes back after having been kidnapped.

Interview with Liz Andrews, author of The Mist Rises Over Notchey Creek
What can you tell us about your new release, The Mist Rises Over Notchey Creek?
This is a cozy mystery set in a small town near the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. The amateur sleuth, Harley Henrickson, is a sensitive young woman whom many dismiss as the town nerd. She was raised by her grandfather and gave up a Harvard scholarship when he became ill with cancer to care for him and help run the family whiskey distillery, which she has since inherited. Preparations are underway for the town's annual autumn festival when a mysterious stranger is discovered in a ditch who appears to be dead but then staggers away and disappears into the woods. On the same day, a famous rock star moves to Notchey Creek, and soon after, a history professor and long-time resident of the town is murdered. As Harley investigates the murder, memories from her own childhood begin to surface, and she unveils a dark secret connected to prominent citizens in town. Like many cozies, the book is a mix of drama and comedy, supplied by a supporting cast of eccentric, funny characters, and gives the reader an in-depth look at life in a small town.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I’ve always been an avid reader and grew up reading the classics, Charles Dickens, in particular. Dickens’s characterizations are unmatched. In more recent years, my love for the classics turned into a love for mysteries, especially “cozy” ones set in villages. Agatha Christie, the mother of the cozy genre, is my favorite author, and her works inspired me to write my own “village mystery.”
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
1. Anything by Agatha Christie
2. Anything by Charles Dickens.
3. Charlotte’s Web
4. To Kill A Mockingbird
5. The Killer Angels
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Alexander McCall Smith. I love his characterizations and witty style. I would ask how he creates so many wonderful characters and crafts such witty sentences.
What's your favorite thing about writing?
I love world building and seeing characters come to life in that world.
What is a typical day like for you?
I get up a five a.m. and write until about eight. Then I take my goldador, Scout, for a long walk or hike. I edit in the afternoons and think about plot.
What scene in The Mist Rises Over Notchey Creek was your favorite to write?
To me, the comedic scenes are always the most fun to write. When Harley’s pig, Matilda, chews a large hole in her dress at the autumn festival, the situation goes from bad to worse. Harley, the protagonist, is a serious character, but she finds herself immersed in these ridiculous circumstances and surrounded by eccentric characters.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Stay fluid and move forward.

Interview with S.J. Hartland, author of The 19th Bladesman
What can you tell us about your new release, The 19th Bladesman?
It’s about a young warrior bonded to ancient gods who knows he’ll die young and soon, without expecting praise from the lord who trained him. Kaell wants more than duty. More of his lord’s time, praise. Just more.
Even Kaell’s lord, though, is unable to save the young bladesman from the dark fate awaiting him. But if Kaell breaks, the kingdom breaks with him. And prophecy says the 19th bonded warrior will break.
The 19th Bladesman is full of ambushes, sword fights and reversals. It’s a story about betrayal, shattering loss and the price of power. At its heart, it’s also about fatherhood.
I wrote the first three books in the Shadow Sword series together, which was useful because you can start a tiny thread that won’t be pulled until the third book, for example … fantasy readers are very clever!
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I’m a journalist and have always written stories. But I was mentored by the amazing Dr Kathryn Heyman who taught me all that a journalist doesn’t know about writing. Turns out that’s quite a lot!
There are also a number of practice manuscripts in some dark corner on my computer. I partly wanted to write what I want to read, but mainly I just wanted to share my characters!
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
Top books? That’s across a number of genres. I always loved Frank Herbert’s Dune. I think I lived rather than read Stephan Grundy’s Rhinegold (and friends will tell you, didn’t shut up about how good it was). One of my long-time favorite books was The Count of Monte Cristo. I love my mentor Dr K’sStorm and Grace; the rhythm of the writing matches the waves. And here’s a really random one: In a Dark Wood Wandering by Hella S Haasse (another book you inhale rather than just read).
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
I write fantasy, so it would have to be George RR Martin and of course everyone would want me to ask: When is the next book coming. Ha ha.
What's your favorite thing about writing?
The flow; the way you lose yourself in this other world. Sometimes I worry my characters are more real to me than everyone else!
What is a typical day like for you?
A typical day. Hmm. I design pages and am a sub-editor in the newspaper world. After work and on weekends, I try to squeeze in as much writing time as possible.
What scene in The 19th Bladesman was your favorite to write?
I was an early reader of Game of Thrones and remember thinking: What am I doing writing fantasy? This guy is so amazing. Then I read in a Qld Writers Centre magazine a quote from someone (and I’m sorry, I can’t remember who said it) but it was long the lines of: Write the book that only you can write.

Interview with S.B. Alexander, author of My Heart to Touch
What can you tell us about your new release, My Heart to Touch?
This book is a new series that is somewhat of a spinoff to my popular Maxwell series. So fans will enjoy getting to know eight more Maxwells and see some old characters like Kade Maxwell in this book.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
I've always had the itch to write a book, but the process seemed daunting until I chatted with an author friend who inspired me to stop talking about it and write the book.
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
The books that I love and have read a few times over are, The Shining, by Stephen King, Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling, The Fallen Crest Series, by Tijan, The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield, and The Eagle Elite Series, by Rachel Van Dyken.
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Definitely Rachel Van Dyken. I'm a huge fan of her books, but I'm also in awe of her work ethic. My top two questions. What keeps her motivated to write? And what is a typical day for her?
What's your favorite thing about writing?
The excitement of writing the first chapter, especially in a new series where I get to introduce readers to new characters.
What is a typical day like for you?
I'm a full-time caregiver to my husband who has ALS. So my author business comes second. But most of the time once my husband is up and situated for the day, I tuck myself in my office for a few hours and during that time I address emails and social media to get that out of the way. Then I spend as much time as I can writing unless I have a release coming up then I split my time between writing and marketing.
What scene in My Heart to Touch was your favorite to write?
Without giving anything away, there's a boathouse scene where Maiken and Quinn are at a crossroads with each other and themselves, and I loved showing how they handle being teenagers.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Life is too short to waste. So live every moment like it's your last.

Interview with Ernesto H. Lee, author of Out of Time
What can you tell us about your new release, Out of Time?
Out of Time is based on the exploits of a time/dream traveling British Cop assigned to a cold case squad. The concept time travel and dreams in general is something that has always fascinated and intrigued me. Whilst Time travel is a much covered and popular genre, I believe that the mixture of Time Travel through the medium of dreams and detective work has added a new and unique twist. This book is the first of a planned series and the second and concluding part of this story ‘The Network’ is also now available.
What or who inspired you to become an author?
In my teens and early twenties’, I was a voracious reader and it wasn’t unusual for me to read a book from cover to cover in a single day, and I would often stay up reading until the early hours of the morning. Unfortunately, as my career developed, time pressure meant that I could no longer do this and it was only recently that I rekindled my love affair with reading. A few times in my life I put pen to paper, but it was finally my partner Maria that inspired and encouraged me to finally complete and publish a novel.
What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?
I would have to say it would be some of the classics that fueled my imagination and lust for reading and writing as a child. Kidnapped, Treasure Island and Robinson Crusoe are sure fire winners for me.
Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?
Wilbur Smith would be my first guest. I love his books and I would be intrigued to know what he would consider to be the three most important things to look out for as a new writer.
What's your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing about writing is the freedom to take a character or a story in any direction you see fit. Options are only limited by your imagination.
What is a typical day like for you?
I have always been an early riser, so generally, I am up and out of bed by 6.30 am. I exercise most mornings and the treadmill is where I tend to do some of my best thinking. After breakfast I spend 3-4 hours writing and in the afternoon I read through and edit. Evenings are mainly with friends and a nice glass of red.
What scene in Out of Time was your favorite to write?
I particularly enjoyed writing the first dream sequence. Many of the elements of the sequence were a throwback to my own past, but more importantly it introduced most of the main characters and set the scene for how the story would progress later.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
I guess my main philosophy for life is don’t be afraid to try new things and don’t let the norms of life limit your imagination. Failure is not necessarily something to worry about. Learn from it and do better next time.
