Interview with Krissy Daniels, author of Truck Stop Titan

What can you tell us about your new release, Truck Stop Titan?

Dane Reynolds is a criminal who wants to be free of the MC life. He stumbles upon a child prisoner and takes her to a rescue home for trafficked children. Dane forms a bond with the child, and eventually with her quirky aunt who has her own set of issues. As with all of the books in the series, Titan is a little dark, a little dirty, pulls at your heartstrings, and of course, wraps up the series with a satisfying HEA.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I’ve been in love with storytelling for as long as I could hold a pencil. Despite encouragement from teachers, family, and friends, I never considered making a career of writing. It wasn’t until my children were in school that I wrote my first novel. A few years back, I learned that a former high school classmate, Rebecca Zanetti had written a series. I was so excited, I bought and devoured all of her books. Then I reached out and said, “Hey, I wrote a book. What do I do now?” Becky was so gracious, thank God. She offered a ton of advice, then encouraged me to join RWA and my local chapter. I joined. A few months later, I signed my first contract.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

That’s an impossible question to answer because I read so many books —mostly romance— and every couple of months, I have a new favorite. I do have a list of favorite series: In The Company Of Killers by J.A. Redmerski. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward. The Deliver Series by Pam Godwin. The Corruption Series by C.D. Reiss. The Sin Brother series by Rebecca Zanetti.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I won’t lie. This could never happen. I’ve met a couple of my favorite authors over the years and the moment I’m in their presence, I turn into a blubbering mess. That being said, I would ask J.R. Ward what she has against baby powder.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I love this question. My favorite thing about writing is getting lost in the characters. Becoming someone else. Sweet and innocent. Dark and disturbing. Young or old. I get to live hundreds of crazy adventures through my characters.

What is a typical day like for you?

My life in a nutshell? Chaotic and boring. Work the day job to support my writing career. Come home. Herd the dogs. Take care of the household duties. Take care of the wifely duties *wink, wink*. My children are self sufficient, so there isn’t much parenting required of me anymore, but they still need attention. Squeeze in as much writing time as I can before I pass out.

What scene in Truck Stop Titan was your favorite to write?

The scene when Dane confesses his sins to James, unaware that Tango is listening. That scene wraps up unanswered questions from the long and volatile relationship between Dane, Tango, and Slade throughout the series.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

After a couple of challenging years, my husband and I decided that “Fuck it” would be our new motto. Can I say that? If not, apologies. But it’s amazing how many situations (good or bad) those two words have gotten me into, or out of.

Interview with Phillipa Nefri Clark, Author of The Christmas Tree Thief

What can you tell us about your new release, The Christmas Tree Thief?

This is the first in a new mystery series. Dr Charlotte Dean first appeared out of the blue in my Christie Ryan series, stayed for two books, then demanded her own stories. The Christmas Tree Thief is a small town whodunit with a dash of danger. Instead of a quiet life in her new town, an unusual spate of crimes brings out the amateur sleuth in Charlotte and Kingfisher Falls will never be the same.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I began penning little stories before I went to school and never stopped, although I diverted into less creative writing for many years. Perhaps the magic stories from authors such as Enid Blyton and CS Lewis made me want to write down the movies playing in my head.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

I have eclectic tastes - so it is more about the authors. I'll read anything by Anne Rice, Anne McAffrey, Dan Brown, CS Lewis, and Agatha Christie.

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

Agatha Christie. I'd love to ask what her favorite book is, and author!

What's your favorite thing about writing?

The creative process. To discover a new world filled with characters and see what they have in store for me.

What is a typical day like for you?

I'm up before six each morning and check emails/social media and make a rough plan of my day. This can include setting up advertising, working with my cover designer, edits, or research. I write every day, even if only a paragraph if I have other commitments. Most weeks I have four full days to write and treat my day like an outside job. Write, break, write. Drink lots of coffee and water.

What scene in The Christmas Tree Thief was your favorite to write?

There are so many I love! One that stands out is the point when Charlotte has to make a decision which will define her place in Kingfisher Falls. She's in danger and finds the internal strength to choose to fight for what is right.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

"A rising tide lifts all boats." I'm a believer in paying good forward.

Interview with Danica Winters, author of Hidden Truth

What can you tell us about your new release, Hidden Truth?

Hidden Truth was a work of the heart. My brothers were both in the military and with that came the warrior mentality. This was a way of bringing that world to readers in a different way; namely, through the world of black ops and military contractors.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I always loved to write, but I thought it was an impossible dream. At 18, I was diagnosed with cancer and I had a revelation that I wanted to contribute to the world and help others escape in any way I could. This led to writing for magazines, then short stories, and finally moving into my one true love—romance.

What's on your top 5 list for the best books you've ever read?

Jodi Picoult’s My Sister’s Keeper
Steven Pressfield’s Warrior’s Ethos
Delia Owens Where the Crawdad’s Sing
J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series
Tara Westover’s Educated

Say you're the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

One of my very favorite people in this industry is BJ Daniels. She is truly an inspiration. Once, when I was just starting out, she gave me the best advice any new writer can receive: “No matter what happens, just keep writing.”

This piece of advice changed my world. I didn’t use life, business, illness, kids, or anything else as an excuse. No matter how much I wanted to quit, I kept plugging away.

If I was to ask her anything, I would like to ask her what was her biggest lesson. She has written hundreds of books. I can only imagine what other gems of wisdom she has to bestow.

What's your favorite thing about writing?

I love to write, picking a single thing I enjoy is like picking a favorite child. This profession isn’t just about writing…being an author is a lifestyle. I go out and study what I choose to write about, I look for nuggets in daily life, I spend hundreds of hours studying psychology and human nature, then comes the creation, proposals, publishers, then the production, marketing, and hanging out with my AMAZING fans. I have a street team that other authors would jones for, seriously…they are the freaking coolest.

What is a typical day like for you?

I wake up, have a cup of coffee and then I get to work. I own Self-Publishing Services, so I have “a day job” of sorts…though it is all interconnected with my writing. Lately, I’ve also been working on a really cool event, a conference for writers, actors, and the public all about Special Operations (think military contractors and alphabet soup agencies).

Once I do my daily business, I then sit down and write between 1-3k words. Or, I work on marketing, reaching out to fans, or creating new ideas. Seriously, there is never a dull moment in my world, but I am so passionate about my books.

What scene in Hidden Truth was your favorite to write?

I love the prologue. I can’t tell you a whole lot, but it set up the entire series. Hidden Truth is the first book in the four-book STEALTH Series, but I just signed with Harlequin for six more in a continuing series called the STEALTH Surveillance Series. So, most of the characters will have cameos!

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

I have two:
Under promise, over deliver. This applies to everything. I want to blow people’s minds when the read my books, meet me, or work with me. I love to surprise!

And always keep the story moving forward. Again, applies to everything. Going back to BJ’s advice, even when life rears its ugly head, I think about this…And I keep on moving. This resilience is something you will always see in my characters and hopefully as readers finish my books, it is a feeling they can bring into their own lives.

The Story Behind Frosted Croakies by Sam Cheever

By Sam Cheever

Hello, Everybody! I’m so pleased to be sharing my brand-new book, Frosted Croakies with you today.

This is Book 5 in my Enchanting Inquiries paranormal cozy mystery series. I’ve dubbed this story, Christmas at Croakies, which, if you know anything about the world of Enchanting Inquiries is appropriate for this fast-paced paranormal romp.

The story begins when our heroine decides to have a Christmas party for customers and friends at Croakies, her enchanted bookstore. Unfortunately, the mix of supernormals and humans soon fall prey to a magical trickster who puts them all under a You’re me but who am I? spell to cover the attempted robbery of the magical artifacts locked in the back room.

I came up with the idea of an identity-switching spell because I thought it would be an interesting twist for the reader in solving the mystery. How do you solve a mystery when you’re too busy dealing with having your essence dropped into a frog? How do you figure out who the guilty party is when you’re trying to keep a room full of people safe from a sweet old lady who’s been turned into a dragon and doesn’t know her flame-throwing breath from her flailing wings? Or from a giant turned into a gargoyle? A witch changed to a foul-mouthed parrot who’s been magically bleeped?

Yeah, it’s twisted, it’s chaotic, and it’s tons of paranormal Christmas fun. There’s even a great Christmas message about the spirit of the season and the magic of love and friendship.

This story embodies my outlook on this special time of year. Whatever challenges we face, whatever disappointments arise, in the end it’s all about working together, sharing our love and affection, and embracing the magic of the season to spread its joy.

Here’s wishing you and yours a season filled with love, magic and a gentle peace that overcomes every challenge you find along the way.

Merry Christmas!
