Interview with Patricia Krisztina & Mihai Petean, Authors of The Feathers of Adam (Adam's Legacies Book 1)
If you were in an elevator with a stranger and had 1 minute or less to describe The Feathers of Adam before the doors opened, what description would you give? Did you see the TV shows Hannibal and Euphoria? If you liked them, read The Feathers of Adam. It’s a disturbing, in-your-face dark book, with an intense focus on the characters’ inner lives. What's your favorite scene from your new release, The Feathers of Adam? Patricia: For me, it’s the scene where you find out who Adam is. Mihai: My favorite scenes contain major spoilers, but the one I can describe without revealing too much is the one where Vallery discovers what the best-kept secret in the world is. What's your favorite thing about writing? What's your least favorite thing about it? Patricia: My two favorite things about writing are discovering new characters and the feeling of freedom that comes with writing. My least favorite is editing. Mihai: My favorite thing about writing is that moment when the story flows like it’s writing itself and something surprising (even to you, who’s writing it) happens. My least favorite is also editing. What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? Patricia: I like to read everything that sparks interest in me, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction. I read a lot of horror, thriller, philosophy, psychology, poetry, medical books. My favorite genre to write is a combination of what I like reading. Mihai: My favorite genre to read is sci-fi, followed closely by horror and fantasy, and in my case, they’re the same as my favorite genres to write. Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves? Patricia: “Quantum: Einstein, Bohr, and the Great Debate about the Nature of Reality” by Manjit Kumar Mihai: “God Hates us All,” by Hank Moody (from Californication) If you had to pick one place to vacation for the rest of your life, where would you choose? Patricia: New Zealand (somewhere remote), or North-Western Europe. Mihai: Middle of the woods in a sturdy modern cabin with good internet. What will your next adventure or writing project be? We’re still working on finishing the second volume of Adam’s Legacies, “The Shadows of Adam,” but after that, we have a few potential projects in mind: a third book in the #REDACTED# Journals series, Mihai is thinking about continuing working on “Dayo,” a sci-fi book where the Leader of Humanity has decided to kill a percentage of the population of Earth after Nexus, Humanity’s AI advises her to do so, and Patricia is thinking about writing “Dhalia,” a book about a young woman who in her journey to understand God starts killing people.

Interview with M.J. Polelle, Author of American Conspiracy
If you were in an elevator with a stranger and had 1 minute or less to describe American Conspiracy before the doors opened, what description would you give? American Conspiracy is a kaleidoscopic inspection of complex characters struggling to find meaning against the backdrop of paralyzed politics and cracking social cohesion. What's your favorite scene from your new release, American Conspiracy? Chapter 43. Det. Jim Murphy of the Chicago PD confronts the corrupt Captain Jack Cronin, a man he thinks his godfather, but who turns out to be his father. What's your favorite thing about writing? What's your least favorite thing about it? My favorite thing is the joyful flow of writing down as fast as I can what a percolating imagination reveals before it escapes again in a game of hide and seek. The least favorite is the business of publication and promotion. What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? My favorite genre to read is the same as my favorite genre to write: mystery/thriller. Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves? You would be surprised to find together on my shelves The Art of Living by Epictetus and How to Clean Practically Anything by Consumer Reports. If you had to pick one place to vacation for the rest of your life, where would you choose? If had to pick one place to vacation for the rest of my life, it would Tuscany, Italy without a doubt. What will your next adventure or writing project be? My next adventure or writing project is blowing in the wind.

Interview with C.C. Bolick Author of Legacy of Power
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Legacy of Power? If I woke up and realized I was Charlie, I'd make sure I had my gun close by and call my sister to tell her how truly sorry I was. Might be tough, though, since cell phones aren't easy to come by in 1990. What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? For reading, I'm torn between YA Sci-fi and Fantasy, plus I love historical romance and Pride and Prejudice retellings. For writing, YA Sci-fi and Paranormal are my favorites. What fictional world would you most like to visit? I take a break from writing to see the various Marvel and DC movies, and I have a ton of fantasy books I check in with when new releases drop, but I spend so much time living in my own world I have to say it feels most like home. What book did you expect to hate, but ended up loving? I recently read A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. Based on the beginning, I thought I'd absolutely hate the main character and never finish the book. Got to give Ms. Maas credit since she changed my mind by the end. What's your favorite thing about writing? What's your least favorite thing about it? My favorite part about writing is the intense feeling of finally nailing the story I've seen in my head. My least favorite thing is the anxious feeling I get when I want to write too many stories at a time. What scene in Legacy of Power was your favorite to write? I don't know about favorites but I put a ton of emotion into this book. I don't always have good memories of growing up in the early nineties, but Charlie has so much on her plate and some things I couldn't help but revisit. When I started this story, the first scene was originally going to be (stop reading if you hate spoilers) the final one with her mom. I pictured those last few moments a few years back when I wrote the fifth Leftover Girl book, and the connection between mother and daughter has always had a special place in my heart. However, I realized I wanted more for her. I wanted to show the relationship with her mother and how this shaped the person Charlie becomes. Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by? Write now. Fear later. What will your next adventure or writing project be? Currently, I'm working on a new series that continues my Leftover Girl Universe. This will be for readers who enjoyed The Fear Chronicle books and want to see what happens next. It will weave new storylines for characters from all of my books and finish threads I haven't been able to before. I'm also working on the second season of Legacy of Power which will be released in February!

Interview with Quinn Avery, Author of In Her Father's Shadow
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write In Her Father's Shadow? I was so stoked to hear Halsey's new song, The Lighthouse, as it’s extremely fitting for this book—specifically for the heroine. As for her hero, I’m going to go with Jack Johnson’s Angel because 1) I totally adore Jack, and 2) the hero is both chill and romantic. If you had to write a blurb for the last book you read, what would it say? I would refuse to do it. Writing blurbs for my own books is hard enough. What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? I generally like to both read and write thrillers and romantic suspense. I love trying to piece things together to solve the mystery, and I’m a sucker for a good love story. Do you have any quirky writing habits? Where did you write In Her Father's Shadow? Most of In Her Father’s Shadow was written in my office on our farm, but some was written on the deck of our lake home and during several 12-hour car rides to visit our son in the Coast Guard, stationed in Michigan. What's the best advice you've ever received? Live for today. I live in a small farming community, and way too many people are dying of cancer at young ages. I try to make the best out of every day, and go on adventures as often as possible!

Interview with Tavi Taylor Black, Author of Where Are We Tomorrow?
What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Where Are We Tomorrow? If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Where Are We Tomorrow, what would they be? If you had to write a blurb for the last book you read, what would it say? A family drama that subtly draws you in, We Are the Brennans will keep you rooting for them to the end. Sunday, Denny, Kale, and the rest of this Irish Catholic crew made me long for a large family, dysfunction and all. Lange's clean prose carries the reader easily along to a satisfying (if somewhat predictable) finish. I didn't want to let this book go. What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? I mostly read and write literary fiction myself, but as my young daughter grows, I read with her. I feel lucky to have found amazing children's books that I would have missed otherwise. Currently, we are reading a lot of middle-grade novels. We have also written a middle-grade fantasy together, so that was a fun project. I'm working on a revision of that story now. Do you have any quirky writing habits? Well, I suppose this is a little strange. As I sit down to write in the morning, the first thing I have to do is download my bank statement. I like to balance the checkbook before I write. Yeah, I guess that's kind of weird. Where did you write Where Are We Tomorrow? I worked on this book for ten years, so it's been worked on everywhere: couch, tour bus, hotel room, lawn chair, hammock, coffee shop, and sure, bars too. What's the best advice you've ever received? From my mentor, A.J. Verdelle: "Clarity is non-negotiable."
