Interview with Emma Woodbridge, Author of Archives, Artists, and Alibis

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Archives, Artists, and Alibis?

My husband (who is my writing partner) and I both love to read and have made reading together an integral part of our marriage. We have spoken often over the years of writing together, and one thing led to another, and here we are. I wanted to mix my love of books with a fun form of escapism, and writing a cozy mystery series with a book-loving main character seemed to fit the bill perfectly. While writing together, we crack each other up, and I hope to be able to make the readers laugh as well.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Oh, this is a tough question! I love reading across multiple genres, but I definitely favor those with a mystery at their core. Sometimes a legal or medical thriller will hit just the right spot; other times it’s the lighter fare that feels more like a sitcom. It all really depends on my mood.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The most disorganized part of my life is my TBR list! It’s rare when a day goes by when I don’t add something to what I want to read next. I’ve been slowly working my way through a collection of Ray Bradbury’s short stories (his stories are excellent, by the way), and I’d like to read more of Sherlock Holmes’ stories soon as well.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I had so much fun writing Archives, Artists, and Alibis! If I had to choose my absolute favorite scene to write, it would have to be when Charlie and her best friend Amanda break into a building looking for clues.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Perhaps not having a quirky habit is quirky? I tend to zone out when I write, and the world just fades into the background.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

You never know what someone else is going through. Be kind. Always.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Laughter is the best medicine! Nothing beats curling up with a good cup of tea or hot cocoa, your dog or cat at your feet, and a favorite book that can leave you feeling happy.

Interview with Judith Keim, Author of Love Between the Lines

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Love Between the Lines?

This is book #2 of a series about three sisters who inherit a cottage on the property of the family’s Lilac Lake Inn . I write a lot of books that take place along the Gulf Coast of Florida and decided it would be fun to write a series based in New Hampshire.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love to read and write Women’s Fiction with Romantic Elements.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Too many to count I try to read often if it doesn't interfere with my writing.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I loved writing the scene where they unexpectedly meet in town and are forced to confront one another.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

My dachshund, Wally, is my writing companion.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Be my best self.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

To remember how important family and friends are.

Interview with SA Dalton, Author of Lethal

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Lethal?

I realised I hadn’t read a vampire romance novel in a long time and I really missed them! I’ve been writing thrillers for the last seven years, which I love doing, but I wanted to write something a little more light-hearted with some humour. While I love the angst of romance, I wanted to add a little of that light-hearted humours side in with some of the tropes I love about vampires.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Lethal, what would they be?

I actually made a playlist for this book and one of the most played songs is Vampire by Olivia Rodriguez. But the lyrics don’t really match the main character’s feelings. So, for Kira I would pick Cardigan by Taylor Swift. For Cyrus it would be Bring Me To Life by Evanescence. For Laila it would be Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I tend to read books from many different genres, including literary fiction, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy and horror. Right now I'm reading The Last House on Needless Street which feels like a mash up of all genres. I love it!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

So many! I'd love to dive back into the Hunger Games world with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It has been so long since I was in that world that I'm a little nervous to start the book. I really want it to be good!

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

There's a scene towards the end of the book that I loved. I don't want to spoil it, but I will say that it involves teddy bears.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I tend to mix things up a lot. I move around the house with my laptop or go to a coffee shop. Sometimes I listen to music or white noise, but other times I prefer silence. I use the Pomodoro technique quite a bit and write in sprints too.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

There is one lyric from a Beyonce song that has stuck in my head. "Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper."

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

The friendships we made along the way!

Still other times, she’d do the hard thing—facing a fear that she had, like having that tough conversation with a friend. No matter what it was, the point was that she was going to take a leap of faith and watch God open up a new lane for her.
