Interview with Irene Lawless, Author of Dreams That Bind Us (Romancing the Keys Book 3)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Dreams That Bind Us (Romancing the Keys Book 3)?

My husband and I visit Key West regularly, and there’s a particular coffee shop we stop at every day. One day as we left through a back alley, I nearly ran over someone on the sidewalk and realized what a great meet cute it would make for a romance story. That was the start of Dreams That Bind Us. James and Anna had both been introduced in A Dove in Paradise and they both screamed the need for their own story. When I placed them into the meet cute idea, the story ran from there.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Dreams That Bind Us (Romancing the Keys Book 3), what would they be?

"Come To My Window" by Melissa Etheridge.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Definitely romance, but I try to read as many sub-genres as possible. My favorites right now are contemporary, romantasy, and romcom.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Bad Demon by Sherilee Gray, Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, How My Neighbor Stole Christmas by Meghan Quinn, and Golden Touch by Sarina Bowen.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I had fun with this entire book because it flowed so well. But my favorite would have to be the meet cute – the crash at the coffee shop.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I need jazz playing in the background and a cup of coffee or tea nearby.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Focus on the positive as often as possible and never stop moving forward. When it feels like it’s at it’s worst, you’re very close to a breakthrough.

Interview with A.K. Chandler, Author of Light Locked (Light Locked Series Book 1)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Light Locked (Light Locked Series Book 1)?

Light Locked is the mature re-write of a story that I started ages ago. The very, very first version was actually when I was 12. It was printed in dramatic 16 pt font with a cover made out of duct tape and repurposed cardboard from a chocolate box. Bringing the story to life with real imagery and themes has been such an adventure because I think some of the stories we write when we're young are very authentic and such a real reflection of what we were feeling and thinking, without other people influencing our opinions about what writing should be like.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Fantasy with a strong romantic undertone. I love slow burn romance development between characters but it's really important for there to also be a strong plot to back the story.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Someone recently recommended Villains and Virtues to me by A.K. Caggiano (just realized her title also starts with A.K.!) and I'd like to check it out.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

So many scenes were a favorite of mine at one point or another, but a lot of the writing builds toward what I refer to as "the castle scene". I can't share anything else because of spoilers!

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Good question! If I am writing it's nice to have hot tea and candle nearby. If I'm editing, it's fun to have The Office, Parks and Rec, or another light, funny show in the background.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

"You only really have what you're grateful for."

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

I guess anything meaningful they took from the book. The characters and themes were so powerful in helping me work through my own struggles and questions about the world. I hope it brings other people similar comfort.

Interview with Katie Ashley, Author of Fix You (The Irish Rogues Book 3)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Fix You (The Irish Rogues Book 3)?

A year ago, I got the idea for a mafia romance series. While writing the first book (the bare bones of the FMC in Fix You), Maeve, came to me. The trauma she experienced molded not only her life but also her brothers. Writing just one scene where our MMC, Raphael, asks her to dance at a wedding reception turned into a full blown romance that I hadn't originally planned on. It was a pure moment of the characters writing themselves! After reading about these two as side characters in the first two books, readers were suddenly clamoring to get Rafe and Maeve's story. While Rafe's book was about four books down the line, I bumped it up because of the reader love!

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Fix You (The Irish Rogues Book 3), what would they be?

This series actually has titles that come from songs. The original three books were songs by the Civil Wars: "Poison and Wine", "Dust to Dust", and "Safe and Sound". With this book, I once again looked for song lyrics that incorporated the characters. There's so much of the lyrics to Coldplay's "Fix You" in both of these characters.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I'm an equal opportunity reader. I love fiction, non-fiction, contemporary, romantasy, dark romance, Rom Com. I'm a total mood reader.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The Syndicater by RuNyx, and Pucking Sweet by Emily Rath are two books I'm looking forward to losing myself in over the Thanksgiving holidays.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write was Maeve surprising Rafe for his birthday...at his sex club.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I think I have reluctant cat on lap writing, lol. If I'm ever writing in my chair in the bedroom, I usually have one or two cats draped on the back of the chair while my velcro pittie likes to lie at my feet.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Anything worth having is hard work.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

That you're stronger than you could ever imagine, and you can ride out the choppy waters of the emotional storms.

Interview with Wilson Hayes, Author of Darkender & Lightgiver: The Fate of Ro'an

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Darkender & Lightgiver: The Fate of Ro'an?

It was originally inspired by our nieces and nephews, and as we wrote it, we realized it was about ourselves.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Darkender & Lightgiver: The Fate of Ro'an, what would they be?

Wyatt - "Indiana Jones theme"

Paige - "Stayin' Alive"

Marrow - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Mozart.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

All of them! fantasy, thrillers, romance, historical fiction!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card; Comeback by Claire and Mia Fontaine; The Fifth Season, N.K. Jemisin; Walk the Wire by David Baldacci

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

We all loved writing the Debt chapter set within the Whisper Woods because of the visual description and unexpected change.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

We each have our lucky coffee mugs (even at the coffee show) and note pads that never get used due to voice text!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Always find the exception to the rule.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Family matters and Ickickikitah!
