Interview with Denise Hunter, Author of The Summer of You and Me

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Summer of You and Me?

While I was visiting my small hometown, I ran into someone who looked exactly like an old friend of mine. But my friend had left town years ago—so who was this doppelgänger? I went down a rabbit hole trying to figure out who this person could be. Before I knew it, a story began brewing in my mind about a widow who thinks she sees her late husband in a crowd—but before she can speak with him, he disappears into the fray.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Summer of You and Me, what would they be?

Josh’s is definitely “In Case You Didn't Know” by Brett Young. I actually used the song in the story. His unrequited love is quite heartbreaking at times!

Maggie’s is “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts. She’s come through a lot and is so deserving of a happy ending.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Contemporary romance, the same genre I write. It's always my goal to write the book I want to read.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

"The Sands of Sea Blue Beach" by Rachel Hauck and "Great Big Beautiful Life" by Emily Henry.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The first kiss scene is actually a flashback. Yowza. And all the scenes in which the Reynolds family is together. I loved writing the family dynamics—the humor and drama that happen when so many personalities are gathered.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

My favorite way to write is with a Baja Blast Zero at my fingertips.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Treat others just as you want to be treated.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

I think there's a lot to be said in the story about what it means to be family. Much of it has nothing to do with genetics.

Interview with Kimberley Troutte, Author of The Intel (The Infiltrix Book 3)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Intel (The Infiltrix Book 3)?

This is the continuing mission of Agent Slade, a spy fighting evil in a dangerous future world.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Intel (The Infiltrix Book 3), what would they be?

Agent Heather Slade enjoys listening to ancient rock music sung by female artists.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I enjoy reading and writing romantic suspense, thrillers, and mysteries because I like twists and turns that surprise me.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The Housemaid by Frieda McFadden is my next read.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The ending was both difficult and exciting to write because the danger level was flipped up to EXTREME...

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I can write almost anywhere, but my special quirky spot is to sit in the window seat at the local coffee shop on Saturday mornings to write.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Love will conquer hate... eventually.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

I hope readers are swept up in the mission and adventure with Heather and her team while also getting a taste of how hard it would be to live under a dictator.

Interview with Prabha Karan, Author of Cherish or Perish

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Cherish or Perish?

I wrote Cherish or Perish after witnessing how easily people lose control of their lives, not from lack of knowledge, but from failing to master their Intellect. I felt called to reveal how this inner force shapes everything, and to help others reclaim their clarity, power, and purpose before it’s too late!

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Non-fiction; Self-Help.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

At this moment, none.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The last section of Chapter 04, section "It’s Not Too Late to Save Yourself."

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

"The way to gain anything is to lose it! (Lose the Craving Mentally!)

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Interview with Huey Hawke, Author of The Otero County Disclosure

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Otero County Disclosure?

Gosh, where to start. Well, I suppose three things. Firstly, the New York Times article from December 2017, headlined "Glowing Auras and ‘Black Money’: The Pentagon’s Mysterious U.F.O. Program," which arguably restarted the UFO phenomenon’s renaissance in the public’s imagination—and still, I believe, remains that paper’s most-read online article. Ever.

Secondly, my beloved older brother, who sadly passed away in 2022. He had severe cerebral palsy but a sharp mind. As a kid, he was selected as the guinea pig to trial the tech that later became Professor Stephen Hawking's communication tool.
Finally, the fast-approaching black hole, or bright beacon of hope, is the advent of true artificial intelligence. I was interested in having fun exploring the deepening convergence of science, technology, and the unknown. We’re living through terrifyingly interesting times.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Otero County Disclosure: A novel for our times, what would they be?

That’s an easy one. "Tinseltown in the Rain" by The Blue Nile—perhaps one of the best, yet most criminally underrated pop songs of the ’80s. Also, Noah Kahan’s "Passenger" from his 2018 album Hurt Somebody. You’ll have to read the novel to understand why! No spoilers now...

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Anything and everything. Literary, contemporary, science fiction, and thrillers. And if a book ticks all those boxes, I'm sold.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Too big to namecheck all of them, but I would say my priorities are to finish Eleanor Catton's 'Birnam Wood' and Lue Elizondo's 'Imminent'. Oh, and not forgetting Stephen King's 'Never Flinch'.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

They were all fun! But if I had to pick one, it was several scenes in the final three chapters. My editor told me that, until these, he thought I would fall off the high wire I was walking, in terms of bringing it all together and tying off loose ends. And oh, what a joy to write the big payoffs after building the setup.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

No. I'm strictly a head down, fingers to the keyboard kind of writer. For me, scribing is like old-school deep-sea diving. Once I'm down there, do not tug on my oxygen supply tube and tell me it's time to return.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

'Carpe diem.' It served me well whilst writing the first draft. Oh, and don't look back.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

It's a book that asks a lot of questions. Some are obvious. Others, you have to read between the lines. I'd ask readers to ponder... Is there a grand plan, bigger than all of us?

Interview with LJ Reitman, Author of Genwise

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Genwise - The Essential Planning Guide and Workbook to Protect Your Family, Finances, and Future?

I wrote Genwise because I lived through the confusion, stress, and emotional weight of trying to help loved ones without a clear plan in place. After losing two stepparents and helping each of my parents navigate life alone from over 1,000 miles away, I realized just how much we leave unsaid and disorganized. I couldn’t find one resource that pulled everything together, legal, financial, medical, and personal, in a way that made sense and felt manageable. So I created the tool I wish we had: a workbook that helps families get organized before a crisis hits. Genwise is for anyone who wants to make things easier for the people they love—with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Genwise - The Essential Planning Guide and Workbook to Protect Your Family, Finances, and Future, what would they be?

“Count on Me” – Bruno Mars, “My Wish” – Rascal Flatts, and “See You Again” – Wiz Khalifa ft. Charlie Puth.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love learning, whether it's through someone’s personal story or a subject that’s completely new to me. Reading gives me perspective, helps me grow, and opens my mind to experiences I may never live myself. I enjoy both fiction and nonfiction, as long as I’m learning and thinking. That same spirit inspired me to write Genwise. I wanted to create something practical yet thoughtful; a book that helps people prepare, reflect, and protect what matters most, while learning about themselves and their loved ones along the way.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Right now, my TBR pile includes: Dana Perino’s I Wish Someone Had Told Me, Carol S. Dweck’s Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, and William Kent Krueger’s Lightning Strike.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The moment I described a family member stepping into a difficult situation, illness, a sudden emergency, or even loss, and realizing everything they needed was right there: names, contacts, instructions, passwords, medical info. No chaos. Just clarity. Writing that part reminded me why this book matters. It’s not dramatic or flashy—it’s quiet relief. It’s someone opening a binder and saying, “Okay, I know what to do.” That image stuck with me, and it’s the emotional heartbeat of Genwise.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I would love to tell you that I have well-thought-out outlines, but that's not always the case. When I start to write, I write whatever is in my head and keep going until I’m satisfied. If inspiration and ideas come to me randomly (and they often do), I scribble them down on any free piece of paper to review later. That might be a bill, the back of an envelope, or whatever scrap of paper is around. I compile these notes and go back to them to create chapters.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Nothing changes if nothing changes.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

“Preparing now is an act of love.” It’s not just about documents — it’s about making life easier for the people you care about, so they’re not left guessing during a crisis.

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Is Anything All Right? Observations of a Misanthrope?

I've written a blog for twenty years, and this book is the 20th anniversary.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Murder and Legal Thrillers. My other six books are of that genre.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Hard to Kill, Step on a Crack, Death of a Salesman, Billion-Dollar Ransom, and The Unraveling of Julia.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Many, but my favorites are when I have animals and/or inanimate objects, speaking or sharing their thoughts, i.e., Brown Bears moving to evolve into polar bears, pistachio nuts trying to escape the bag, and the iceberg that sank the Titanic.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I overuse passive verbs.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Do the right thing.

Interview with Winston Galt, Author of UTOPYC

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write UTOPYC?

See that the world we live in is dominated by evil, and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert A. Heinlein reveals that the worst evil power is political power, which controls force, education, and money. We are so accustomed to accepting the power of this evil that we believe there is no alternative. Utopyc is the formulation of the only possible alternative: the abolition of politics and political power. It shows how life can be organized without evil, based on the value of people and their respect for others.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of UTOPYC, what would they be?

Another Brick in the Wall, by Pink Floyd.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

My favorite genres to read are science fiction, utopias and dystopias, American noir novels, and political thrillers.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, by Robert A. Heinlein.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The scene in my book that I most enjoyed writing was, without a doubt, the interview the journalist conducts with the president of Utopyc, in which the latter shows the journalist that the supposedly democratic world we live in is, in reality, a Marxist one, not truly democratic. The Museum of Liberty and the Museum of Beauty were also a pleasure to write. I have a special fondness for the scene in which a chauffeur laments that his father has been deceived by the State his entire life and has never been able to rise above poverty due to the deceptive state education that convinces us to be slaves of the State, so that we accept it without criticism.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I don't have any kind of habit of this kind. I just try to be as professional as possible and write compulsively until I finish the story I'm involved in.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

"I will not ask anyone to sacrifice themselves for me, but I will not sacrifice myself for anyone except by free and voluntary decision." It's by Ayn Rand, and I believe it should be the starting point for opposing educational policies that convince us to accept slavery to the State.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

That a free life, without state coercion, will bring about the birth of a new Humanism, the likes of which human history has never known before.
