What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?
This is the start of a sequel series to the first series I wrote, The Power of Princirum (don’t worry. You don’t have to have read that first series to jump in here). I loved the world of Princirum, my hidden magical island. I wanted to figure out what would happen if a lot of time had passed aver the events of the first series. What is this place like now? What does the magic look like? What are the new “groups” and “factions” in this society.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?
It would definitely be the Avengers theme. Keller, my MC, is OBSESSED with the idea of “being a hero.” In his head, he’s already the hero.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love YA books. The subgenre is totally based on my mood. Normally, it’s whatever I’m not writing, to give me a break.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Far too many to count.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The entire climax. It was one of the first things I nailed down for this book, and getting to write it was really a lot of fun.
Do you have any quirky writing habits?
I listen to the same song on repeat the entire time I write. I have different songs for different projects, but I always listen to the same one over and over again. Even if my writing session is hours long. I don’t change it. I need the consistent vibe.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Perfect is the enemy of done.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That this story is just the beginning.
