Interview with Sandra Boyle, Author of Thief of Echoes

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Thief of Echoes (Echoes of the Forgotten Book 1)?

I have always liked science fiction stories and movies. I wasn’t sure I would be creative enough to write fiction, but I decided to try it.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Thief of Echoes (Echoes of the Forgotten Book 1), what would they be?

I am a big music person, so I will give you a longer answer than you were expecting:

The Beatles

– “Nowhere Man” (1965) — dreamy and introspective; about feeling lost and undefined, searching for self and purpose.
– “Across the Universe” (1970) — ethereal and contemplative; floating through thought and memory.
– “Yesterday” (1965) — deeply nostalgic; grieving a past self or lost time.

The Eagles

– “Wasted Time” (1976) — regretful, reflective on lost years and searching for meaning.
– “Take It to the Limit” (1975) — pushing beyond fear, longing for something just out of reach.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Fiction: Dean Koontz, because he thinks outside the box; Brandon Sanderson; and Robert Jordan — so I guess a mixture of science fiction and fantasy.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

I have been a big reader throughout my life, but I put that aside when I started writing.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

My favorite scenes are those where she is strong and overcomes her nemeses and internal insecurities.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

No quirks, I am fairly boring.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

If I want it enough, I can make it happen.
Creating beauty from brokenness.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

That despite our imperfections and weaknesses, we can still make positive changes in our lives and in the lives of those around us, and find happiness.
