Interview with Roland Drake, Author of The Cult of Calladon (Corbo Mallik Adventures Book 1)

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Cult of Calladon (Corbo Mallik Adventures Book 1)?

I wanted to combine the things that I love about Star Trek and Star Wars into a new adventure series, that would (hopefully) appeal to fans of those franchises.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Science Fiction of all kinds, as well as epic fantasy. The Lord of the Rings is my favorite book of all time.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick, Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, Death’s End by Cixin Liu.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Hard to say without spoilers, but it’s the scene where the Scavenger is under attack by an unexpected foe, and Rylee figures out a way to get them out of a deadly situation.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I write in the early morning hours, sitting with my laptop on a cozy chair from IKEA. I don’t like writing at a desk.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Never give up on your dreams. Someday, the time will be right to make them come true. You have to be ready and willing to make it happen.
