Interview with Lee Matthew Goldberg, Author of Orange City

16 Mar 2021

What can you tell us about your new release, Orange City?

Orange City is a Sci-Fi/Dystopian novel about a hidden City in the future that collects felons and outcasts from the “Outside World,” but they are bound to City and can never leave under a monstrous figure who calls himself The Man.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I’ve always been an author. Even as a little kid I would write crazy stories about my dog getting into trouble, so it was always in the cards that it would become my career.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Probably The Great Gatsby, Wuthering Heights, The Beach, Demian, and Confederacy of Dunces.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

Probably Stephen King. I really admire his career because he writes so many different genres and I would like to do the same. Also to hit him up for a future blurb.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I love just getting lost in my own world every day. When I’m really writing something good, I leave my body and go somewhere. Not sure where exactly, but it’s somewhere.

What is a typical day like for you?

I usually take care of business in the morning, emails and such, and maybe do some editing. Then I write most afternoons in Central Park under my tree if the weather is nice.

What scene from Orange City was your favorite to write?

There’s a sad scene when Graham wakes up in the middle of the night and sees that his love Marlena is missing her arms. She doesn’t know that he’s seen her this way. It’s just a really powerful scene.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

All books go on their own journeys and the journeys they go on are the ones that are meant to be.
