Interview with Lauren Blakely, author of The Pretending Plot

18 Feb 2020

What can you tell us about your new release, The Pretending Plot?

The Pretending Plot in one of my favorite books because it is my first ever fake fiance romance. I wrote it originally in 2013 and I drastically revised it this year, turning it into a first person story, expanding the characterization, and expanding it from a novella to a novel.

What scene in The Pretending Plot was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene is probably the one in the library and that’s a little bit naughty so I’ll leave it at that and let readers discover it! But I also love almost any scene involving Sutton’s dog because he is based on my dog.

Why do readers love Fake Romance so much? What about it appeals to the reader?

What I find most appealing about a fake romance is that it forces the hero and heroine to get closer during this story. They have to touch each other, they have to hold hands, drape an arm around the other, and sometimes touch or kiss in public. So the situation takes two people who might not normally try a relationship who now must have these little moments — and that helps them to see the other person in a brand new light.
