Interview with L.P. Dover, Author of Defending Hayden

28 Jun 2016

What can you tell us about your new release, Defending Hayden?

Defending Hayden follows Derek McLaughlin, linebacker for the Carolina Cougars. In Catching Summer, you see him in a horrific car accident that claims the life of his girlfriend, Brianna. He goes through a downward spiral where nothing else matters to him except drugs, sex, and alcohol. But in his novel, he starts to come around again. That’s when he meets Hayden Hunter, local veterinarian. She helps him move on from the pain and he soon realizes that he can love again. Unfortunately, it doesn’t end there. I love a little bit of danger and mystery in my books so I add that in to make it not so easy on Derek and Hayden.

What books do you find yourself returning to again and again?

Paranormal romance, every time; especially YA paranormal romance. I love the sexy stuff too, but there’s something about my favorite paranormal authors that gets me every time.

Do you listen to anything while you write? If so, what’s your audio of choice?

I have to have complete silence. Music is a huge distraction.

What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day for me would be taking the kids to school and then coming home to sit in my favorite recliner while I write. Mix in a little bit of laundry and dishes and there you have it.

What’s your favorite thing about living in North Carolina?

I love being close to the mountains and the beach.

What will your next adventure be?

As far as writing, I have to get back to my Armed & Dangerous series. I love me some undercover cops. After that, I’m moving on to a brand new assassin series. Give me some hot men and guns and I’m happy.

What scene in Defending Hayden was your favorite to write?

Oh wow, that’s a hard one. To be honest, I really enjoyed the break up scene when Derek feels like he’s not good enough for Hayden. There’s so many emotions you can just feel it leaping off the page. It’s the one time when readers will seriously want to kick Derek’s a$$.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

I’ve always loved this quote: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
