Interview with Kerry Hilton, Author of The Pitch

05 Jul 2023

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Pitch?

I’ve spent nearly 40 years in advertising working for large New York firms as well as running my own business. The Pitch is about an ad agency that needs to win a critical account and gets caught up in the swirl of greed and the mob.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Pitch, what would they be?

Brandt Murdoch’s theme song would be “You’re So Vain.”

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Mystery and adventure!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Stephen King’s “Fairy Tale.”

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The end is a wild, unexpected shift in expectations. Everything you think is true is turned upside down.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I write late at night, drinking large amounts of caffeine while listening to blaring music through headphones.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Write what you dream.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

It’s a quote at the end of the book. “The biggest lies we tell are not to each other, but to ourselves.”
