Interview with Kennedy Layne, Author of Baffling Blend

17 Mar 2020

What can you tell us about your new release, Baffling Blend?

Welcome to Paramour Bay! Baffling Blend is part of the Paramour Bay Mysteries. These cozy mysteries take place in a quaint coastal town in Connecticut, where a young woman discovers that she’s inherited a charming tea shop and an eerie cottage on the edge of town. Shenanigans ensue when Raven Marigold discovers that she’s a witch. This series is filled with enchanting whodunits and delightful mysteries that you won’t want to miss!

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I’ve been an avid reader from the time I was a little girl and happened to discover Nancy Drew books in the school library. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be Nancy Drew?

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

I would say every single book in the Nancy Drew mysteries, but also the Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice. They aren’t cozy mysteries, but there is something very addicting about the world created in the series. I highly recommend them to anyone!

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would probably ask Anne Rice to be my first guest. I’d love to know about her writing process and what prompted her to create the Mayfair Witches.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I don’t plot, but instead open up a word document and let the words flow from my fingers. My favorite part about writing is creating a mystery that surprises even me at the end!

What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day for me always, always starts off with coffee. I can’t function without the magical brew! While enjoying my first cup, I check my emails and messages before doing a bit of admin work. I also Skype with other authors on a daily basis. Being an author doesn’t mean he or she has to be isolated from others. Once I make my second cup, I curl up on the couch in front of my fireplace and start my writing day. Sometimes I can finish as early as two o’clock and other times it can be late in the evening.

What scene in Baffling Blend was your favorite to write?

Any scene involving Leo! He is Raven’s familiar, and I have such a fun time writing his quirky and snarky remarks. Truthfully, he’s my favorite character to write in the entire series!

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Very simply put: “Never give up.”
