Interview with Joseph Souza, Author of The Anchorman’s Wife

06 Dec 2023

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Anchorman’s Wife?

I’ve always been interested in human psychology and the duality of the mind. Also, the effect of nurture versus nature on the development of a person’s character. Then there’s ambition and how far we will go to succeed in the endeavors we undertake in life. All these questions are important themes in The Anchorman’s Wife. As Shay’s memory falters from the attack perpetrated on her, she begins to question herself, her life, and her marriage to Gideon Wells.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Anchorman’s Wife, what would they be?

“I Will Survive,” by Cake.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

All crime fiction and high-level psychological thrillers.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

THE ONLY ONE LEFT by Riley Sager

THE PERSONAL ASSISTANT by Kimberly Belle

THE FURY by Alex Michaelides

THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY by Erik Larson

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Lol! I can’t tell you because I’ll give away the plot twist if I do.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I must write 1300 words a day. And if I misspell a word, I have to totally erase the word and rewrite it. It feels I taint the manuscript if I don’t totally erase it and start over.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.” Stephen King

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

That in the end, you get to choose your own destiny. You get to decide if you want to walk the path of evil or good.
