What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?
The Golden State Killer. The Idaho Murders. The NorCal Rapist. All of these killers were captured using investigative genetic genealogy. Investigators use public DNA databases to build a family tree, narrow down the pool of potential suspects, and then combine that with all available evidence to finally catch the killer. What might happen if investigators narrowed it down to two potential families? That was the spark for Someone in the Family.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?
The theme song for Alex Orange would have to be “The Coffee Song” by Frank Sinatra.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I like to read crime fiction, thrillers, mysteries, and a good romance now and then. My writing preferences are pretty much the same.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
Deep Blue Lies by Gregg Dunnett. Double Tap by Don Bentley and Vince Flynn.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I didn’t expect the Orange family dinner scenes to be my favorite scenes to write, but they were.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
My quirky writing habit is that I don’t have one. Maybe I should get one. Hmm.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Action + Time = Life. Take action while you have the time.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
