What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Myst and Ink? A few of my favorite SciFi fandoms have had movies or episodes that focus more on the planets where these story worlds reside versus storylines that revolve around space travel. I wanted to write a story set in the future, where space travel is a thing, but not the main focus. I also wanted to explore magic and technology and see a world where those two things are intertwined. If you woke up in the world of Myst and Ink, what is the first thing you would do? If I were an elite, with higher-level magic, I’d want to try out all the cool spells available. Change my appearance and jump through a wormhole to another planet. If I were a low-ranked worker with little to no magic, I’d skip work, explore the city, and try not to get killed. What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write? Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance. I write Urban Fantasy, which is one of the reasons I wanted my SciFi to be set in a world with magic. Urban Fantasy with Planets! What fictional world would you most like to visit? Future Earth in the Star Trek universe. What book did you expect to hate, but ended up loving? I listen to audiobooks and don’t generally start one that I’m not expecting to like, however, I will say that I was surprised that I liked Ilona Andrews Hidden Legacy series so much more than all their others. They are one of my favorite authors and I like all of their series (including the Edge and Innkeeper, which has a crossover plot line!) but I didn’t expect Hidden Legacy to surpass the Kate Daniels series as my favorite of theirs. What’s your favorite thing about writing? What’s your least favorite thing about it? Favorite: Inventing the world where my stories will reside. Least Favorite: Starting a new series, because there is always so much unsettled world-building. What scene in Myst and Ink was your favorite to write? The opening scene when Liam lands on Old Earth and the reader is shown what has happened to the world in 800 years. Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by? Be kind and recognize that people can grow, learn to be better humans, and improve with age (if they want to). What will your next adventure or writing project be? I’m working on book 2 in the Myst and Ink world.
