Interview with Bethany Rosa, Author of Pursuit of Innocence

01 May 2024

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Pursuit of Innocence?

I was struggling to find a book that checked all my boxes and after being disappointed a few times in a row, I decided to write my own. It just so happens that I had a dream one night, and when I woke up, I knew it was the start of a story, so I wrote it down. It became the first 2800 words of my book, which ended up being chapters twenty-two and twenty-three..

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I’ve been reading romance since I was a teenager, which is the same genre I write. I read 250 romance books the year prior to writing my own.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, Cruel Seduction by Katee Robert, True Love Experiment by Christina Lauren and 80 other books.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The scene where Lily gives herself completely. It was the scene I built the book around and it was interesting to see how it evolved throughout the six month writing process.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I truly wish I had a good answer for this, but sadly I do not. I move around from spot to spot in my house and write for hours at a time.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

I have two. It’s none of your business what other people think about you. Everything happens for a reason.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

I want my readers to remember there’s another book on it’s way and to be excited for it.
