What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?
The inspiration for the story came to me after I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder last fall that affects my mobility. Thankfully, I have a great support system in place. But I wondered how I would function if I were alone and vulnerable. I then took it a step further and combined the idea of vulnerability with letting the wrong people into your life and the dangerous consequences that happen when your trust is abused and your weaknesses are used against you.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?
I’m dating myself here, but the one that immediately comes to mind would be for my main character, Taylor Ambrose. Her theme song would be “I Will Survive” by Gloria Gaynor.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
I love reading anything with a mystery to solve, no matter the genre.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
The top three books on my TBR are: The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, Mazywood by Tananarive Due, and Stone Mad by D.M. Pulley.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
I’d have to say the epilogue because it packs a punch.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I dictate my books in the bathtub because my bathroom is the most distraction-free room in the house.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Yes, but only for my writing career. It’s a quote by Toni Morrison that goes, ‘If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.’ I’ve based my entire writing career on that quote.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
Be careful who you let into your life.
