Interview with E. G. Creel, Author of The Immortal

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Immortal?

Starting as a dream I couldn't stop thinking about, I decided to write a paragraph to get the story out of my head. That paragraph kept going and turned into 46,000 words in six weeks.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Immortal, what would they be?

Ivar enjoys The Beatles. I recommend listening to "In My Life" when reading Home Is Where the Heart Is.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Urban fantasy, and I enjoy a good giggle now and again.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Dark Family Secrets by Hoyt Hallford on Kindle Vella.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The ending was very satisfying. I also very much enjoyed writing the fight scene on The Bryony.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

Drinking a glass of water before I start. I feel like my brain does better when it's not a limp wilted plant. And I imagine Neil Gaiman's voice in my head saying, "There are no rules."

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Daily disciplines add up. I'm almost 40 and I finally understand the story about the tortoise and the hare. Talent won't get you to the finish line, discipline will.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

You are the hero in your story. You have arrived.

Interview with Tamara Grantham, Author of The Not-So-Chosen One

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Not-So-Chosen One?

It was originally inspired by a dream, and it's a spoof of the hero's journey. In the dream, there was a fantasy world that had evolved with magic, and had become dependent on magical factories. The Dark Lord escapes, and he's gotten wiser. The first thing he does is pick out all the would-be Chosen Ones who would defeat him, and he destroys them. Gordy Simpleton decides to become the "pretend" Chosen One and trick the Dark Lord.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Not-So-Chosen One, what would they be?

Thunderstrike by AC/DC

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I love fantasy! And yes—I love to write it also.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Mark of the Thief by Jennifer Nielsen, Enamored by Jody Hedlund, Fated Blades by Ilona Andrews

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

I loved writing about the lazy dragons living in zoos. In the world I created, the dragons have all been tamed and live peacefully, so it was fun to write a dragon character who craves cheeseburgers.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

No, I have five kids, and I've learned to write whenever and wherever I can—even if it happens to be in the hospital waiting room!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

"Comparison is the thief of joy." —Theodore Roosevelt. I find this especially applicable for writers, or artists of any kind, as comparison can be a pitfall and lessen the joys of our accomplishments.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Even ordinary people can become great.

Interview with Ashely Munoz, Author of King of Hearts

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write King of Hearts?

It's the second edition in the Rake Forge University Series, so writing these characters in book one is what really inspired me. I had laid quite a few breadcrumbs that I didn't even expect to pick up on then develop into something entirely different by book two.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of King of Hearts, what would they be?

Save My Love by Lonr. and Amber Mark

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Fantasy with a heavy romantic subplot

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

We're Made of Moments by Molly Mclain, The Book Boyfriend by Carina Rose, Room Hate by Penelope Bloom, Zodiac Academy, and several more.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Chapter Sixteen. Easily my favorite—it's the largest climax in the story, and most jaw-dropping. I had so much fun writing it, that even now after it's finished, I'll go back and reread it.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

No, I have four kids which makes it difficult to really find the time to write. If I get the time, I just get it done no matter what's around me, or where I'm at. I do usually need music of some kind, but that always depends on my mood.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Be kind to everyone, especially people just starting out in this industry. It costs nothing and usually gives you a massive return.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

My name....haha, I mean that's a weird thing to say but I'm serious. I would hope that my name stood out to readers and made them want to one-click me in the future.
