Interview with R.L. Snyder, Author of DAEMONS (The Riddle of the Storm)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write DAEMONS (The Riddle of the Storm)?

I wrote my first novel (Branwen) for middle schoolers to young adults. It was a retelling of THE SWORD IN THE STONE narrated by a young girl. My series (THE SHADOW WAR) I wrote for young adults. I am an eclectic reader. My favorite genres are epic fantasy, military history, historical fiction and adventure stories of all types. I thought it might be fun to write something that incorporated them all. One not specifically geared to young adults.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of DAEMONS (The Riddle of the Storm), what would they be?

I suppose you could consider the STORM to be something like the rabbit hole Alice fell into taking her to another world. For fun, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

The Forgotten Kingdom by Signe Pike Arkangel by James Rollins. One of my favorite authors.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The first time Hal sees Maggie. Henry’s pet long tooth. Which turns out to be a saber-tooth tiger. There were many more, but that was fun.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I write many notes, most of which I can’t find when I need them.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Judge people for who they are, not who they are supposed to be. Dogs are people too.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Consider what a world would be like if no one taught you to fear someone based solely on their race or religion.

Interview with Paul A. DeStefano, Author of Riftsiders: White Collar Crimes

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Riftsiders: White Collar Crimes?

The third book of the Riftsiders series delves deeper into the religious implications of the possessions that have been prominent in the story. It continues the line of "appearances and sterotypes aren't always true."

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Fantasy. Yes, I don't like writing about the real world, I'd rather do it through metaphor.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

My brother insists I read the autobiography of Geddy Lee.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Spoiler: The one where readers will write me hate mail because what I have done to their favorite characters.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I have two laptops. One is JUST for writing, the other is everything else, like Warcraft.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

We don't stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing. - GB Shaw

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Never judge until you learn.

Interview with Kimberly Readnour, Author of Face Me Off (Cessna U Hockey Book 2)

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Face Me Off (Cessna U Hockey Book 2), what would they be?

“Whatever It Takes” by Imagine Dragons represents Ryan’s determination and willingness to sacrifice for his father and responsibilities while grappling with his own dreams.

“Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield captures Maddy’s transition from her parents’ expectations to embracing her artistic side and forging her own path.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

My favorite genre is definitely romance! I read a few nonfiction titles on occasion, but nothing beats a couple falling in love.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

My list is never ending. Lol. After I finished Face Me Off, I did enjoy a few books, but I’ve added more since.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Maddy has been living under her parents’ thumb for far too long. She comes home after an argument with her father and takes out her frustrations on the canvas. It’s an emotionally packed scene and a pivotal part of the plot. I loved what she accomplishes from that moment.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I would love to have a quirky writing habit, but I just write whenever I can steal time.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Years ago, I was at the bookstore looking for stocking stuffers for my children. On a bookmark, a shortened quote, “Never, never, never quit” from Winston Churchill stood out to me. Needless to say, each child received that bookmark, and I have repeatedly reminded them of his words. It wouldn’t be right if I didn’t live by that motto myself.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

To never give up on your dreams. They are yours and nobody else's.

Interview with Johanna Frank, Author of Here Lyeth (A Lifeline Fantasy Novel Book 1)

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Here Lyeth (A Lifeline Fantasy Novel Book 1)?

There is a prologue in the first novel I published, The Gatekeeper’s Descendants, which is narrated by an unnamed character 300 years prior to the setting and left a bit of untouched mystery. HERE LYETH is the backstory to that prologue. Although HERE LYETH is the third installment into A Lifeline Fantasy Series, it is the ideal first read for the series. Having said that, each installment into this series is an absolute standalone read, so any order will do! A one liner as to what HERE LYETH is about? I like how IndieReader summed it up: “HERE LYETH by Johanna Frank is a historical supernatural novel that proves family drama hasn’t changed much since the 17th century—though modern family counseling sessions rarely include ghostly uncles.”

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Here Lyeth (A Lifeline Fantasy Novel Book 1), what would they be?

Interesting and fun question. I could spend all day listening to music and what a challenge to choose just one! Perhaps “The Call” by Regina Spektor, or something along that line with some added notes for adventure.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Funny as I can’t say I have an absolute favorite genre, though mysteries, crime, family drama, the odd romance, and fantasy are all on my list of okays. What I find is that I like my reads to have an easy flowing writing style, a fast pace, at least one character I can relate to, and a bit of humor splashed here and there. And I always appreciate a good ending.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Plenty of indie books! Particularly new authors. I enjoy supporting this artful way to create good messaging and good entertainment.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Not so sure I had a favorite scene to write, but admittedly, I did have a favorite character and enjoyed getting into her head, or rather, allowing her to enter mine. That character was Lexxie. Life was good for her until it sent her for a thrashing, but... I’ll say no more …I’d like for you to read about it!

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I simply had to move frequently! Each morning I’d decide—upstairs in the office? On a comfy chair in the living room? At the kitchen counter? Or perhaps, the quiet, seldom used room in our basement. The odd time I’d find myself needing to pack up and head to our local library or to a café for a change of scene.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

“Even a little heavenly imagination can lighten the chains of life.”

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Bigger picture thinking. Having fun imagining the reunion with loved ones who have passed; applying some focus to purpose and meaning for today’s living; or perhaps even feeling something of comfort. Maybe, matters to ponder about. Plus, I dearly hope, the simple enjoyment of reading to be entertained.

Interview with C.J. Brohn, Author of Social Security In A Nutshell

What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Social Security In A Nutshell?

As I was looking into Social Security decisions for my wife and I, some confusion remained even after reading a few books and navigating the Social Security website. With a background in teaching, where I always seek to take complicated issues and make them more simple, I decided to do the same with this topic as it was essential for me to do research for my own decisions.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Social Security In A Nutshell, what would they be?

“Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley.

What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

John Grisham!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Gene Getz, “The Measure of a Man”; Sam & Debbie Wood, “What Is Marriage?”; John Grisham, “Framed”; Tamara Miller, “Into the Fall”; Grant Howard, “Surfing the Waves of Change”

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

Chapter 1, in a Nutshell, where I condensed much information into bullet points for quicker understanding.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I don’t smoke, but love to flick my Zippo lighter on and off, and on and off, and smell the unique aroma of Zippo lighters!

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Do the best I can with what I have and try to help others along the path.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Don’t wait to put some of these principles into motion, especially saving in a Roth IRA, and taking advantage of an HSA account.
