What's the story behind the story? What inspired you to write this book?
This book is female private eye Story Smith’s latest adventure. It’s the fourth book in the Story Smith Mystery series, which begins with Never on Monday, followed by Tuesday Means Trouble and Woe Is Wednesday. The books—which can be read as standalone novels or in series order—star Story, a rookie private investigator solving crimes in 1955 Philadelphia, and her handsome competitor crush, Steve Evans. The romantic mystery series features a different mystery with each book while also advancing the slow-burn romantic relationship between Story and Steve. In Thrill Me Thursday, they travel to Florida to solve a corkscrew-twisty mystery that involves sharks, guns, ghosts, and nuns.
If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of your book, what would they be?
For Thrill Me Thursday, the theme song for the entire book would be the theme song from the movie Jaws.
What's your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?
My favorite genres to read are romances and mysteries, which is why I am now writing romantic mysteries. I like combining the two because romance adds suspense to the mystery, and the adventure of solving a mystery adds delicious tension to a romance.
What books are on your TBR pile right now?
So many books, both fiction and nonfiction, are on my TBR pile right now. They include The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston and Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. And for nonfiction, Everything Is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo.
What scene in your book was your favorite to write?
The one with the sharks. And the end.
Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)
I often write with my cat, Summer, on my lap.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
Trust is faith in action. Also, love wins.
If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?
That while Story (and Steve's) exciting summer of 1955 is heating up, it's just getting started. The next book in the series, Friday on Fire, will be a scorcher. So stay tuned.
