Interview with Sue Wilder, Author of The Wolf in the Watchtower

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Wolf in the Watchtower?

A year ago, I was happy writing contemporary, non-paranormal romances, but a vivid inspiration hit me one night, a dramatic snatch of a night scene with three lines of dialogue. I knew I’d write a book around that scene, and it became the pivotal climax in The Wolf in the Watchtower. That scene still ties me up emotionally when I read it. And the book turned into a trilogy.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Wolf in the Watchtower, what would they be?

For Noa, I’d say The Archer by Taylor Swift, and Lights by Ellie Goulding.

Grayson was more obstinate, so my choices for him are Hurricane by Luke Combs and White Horse by Chris Stapleton.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

My guilty pleasure for reading is Mafia Romance. But I love writing Fantasy/Paranormal and Contemporary Romance, and my Fantasy reading swings from Sarah J Mass to Susanna Kearsley to Diana Gabaldon to Suzanne Collins.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Too many to list!

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The climatic scene was a favorite, but I loved the interaction between grumpy Grayson when Noa was irritating him, and he shifted into his wolf to avoid a conversation.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I always recite the Homer quote: “O Divine Poesy, goddess, daughter of Zeus…” It goes on from there, but the words center me before I begin to write.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Faith, strength, vision, courage, and love.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

The dedication: For those who feel like a star is missing in the heavens… for those who have dreamed and cried with no one to hear except the midnight sky… believe in hope.
