Interview with Penelope Bloom, author of Single Dad’s For Christmas

13 Dec 2017

What can you tell us about your new release, Single Dad’s For Christmas?

Single Dad’s for Christmas is a bundle including 3 of my bestselling single dad novels and two brand-new short stories from me that you can’t get anywhere else. It includes Single Dad Next Door, Single Dad’s Virgin, and Single Dad’s Hostage. It also includes a really fun novelette that takes place at a Christmas party in a mansion on Christmas Eve and has some light BDSM elements. In addition, I’ve also included another quick read that takes place between a woman and her boss who get trapped on the roof of their office building on Christmas Eve.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Well, this is where my fantasy nerd is going to come out. I probably shouldn’t admit that no romances are on this list (lol) but oh well! I have made no secret of the fact that I love the Harry Potter series… I’ll just pick one though:

1) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (the fourth and the best book!)

2) Brandon Sanderson’s Mistbourne series

3) Brandon Sanderson’s The Way of Kings series

4) The Curious Case of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon

5) Story Engineering by Larry Brooks

Do you listen to anything while you write? If so, what’s your audio of choice?

I do sometimes! It actually depends on where I’m writing and what mood I’m in. Sometimes I like to go to a Panera and write in the morning just to change up my routine. If it’s pretty empty in the store, I tend to prefer the ambient noise to music, but if people sit near me I like to drown it out with music. At home, it just kind of depends on the day. I’m kind of a habitual person, and I actually listen to the exact same playlist every time I write. I go on Spotify and listen to Tame Impala! That’s it, haha. I think when the music doesn’t surprise me it’s not distracting, whereas if I was listening to Pandora and didn’t know what to expect from each song it’d be distracting.

Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves?

The Art of War by Sun Tzu. I never read more than the first hundred pages or so, though! I thought it’d be really cool and then got bored. Whoops!

What’s your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is probably a sloth who drinks a ton of coffee and fools the world into thinking it’s actually a baby bear or something? Was that too specific?

What is the one movie you can quote the most?

Hmmm. That’s tough because I’m not a memorizer at all. I can remember facts that are interesting or details about books from forever ago, but when it comes to memorizing movies it just doesn’t happen for me.

What scene in Single Dad’s For Christmas was your favorite to write?

When I was writing my newest novelette at the Christmas party, I very much enjoyed writing the HEA because let’s just say I had come to really dislike a character and I got to dish out his punishment in a way only writers really get to enjoy.
