Interview with N.E. Henderson, author of Dirty Blue

What can you tell us about your new release, Dirty Blue?

It’s about a female, Los Angeles detective who finds herself fostering a baby and tangled up in a forbidden love affair with a man she is investigating. Bri is the stronger female I’ve written to date, and I’m very proud of that.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I remember doing a cute little “create a book” project in kindergarten where I wrote a story and illustrated it with crayons. I came home that night and told my mom I wanted to be a writer when I grow up.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Chances by Jackie Collins will forever be my favorite book. It’s the story that sparked my desire to read back in 8th grade. Other favorites include: Bully by Penelope Douglas, This Man by Jodi Ellen Malpas, American Queen by Sierra Simone, and Locke by Harper Sloan.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

Amo Jones. I’ve only recently become a fan of her writing. And I don’t care what we talk about as long as she speaks in that awesome, beautiful accent of hers. I totally have a girl crush on her and her books.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

The story unfolding in my head. I usually know the beginning and the end of a story when I start one. It’s the middle that has to develop as I write.

What is a typical day like for you?

I still have a full-time management job at a local hospital, so I usually don’t get to write until my 8-year-old is in bed.

What scene in Dirty Blue was your favorite to write?

The steamy scene after the football game.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Always stay true to yourself.
