Interview with MK Harkins, Author of Ashes

08 Jun 2022

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale Series Book 1)?

I love fairy tale retellings. As soon as the idea popped into my head that Cinderella would work in a morgue, I was off and running!

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of Ashes (Modern-Day Fairy Tale Series Book 1), what would they be?

Harry – Lonely by Justin Beiber & Ashley – Princesses Don’t Cry – Aviva.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

Romance – and yes!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Colleen Hover – all of them, and Tina Gephart (I’m waiting for her next release).

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

When Harry had to dodge into the morgue to avoid crazed fans.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

My 25 pound dog has decided whenever I write he must drape himself across my lap.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

So many – how do I choose? I guess the top would be “Comparison is the thief of joy.”

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Take chances. Don’t live behind a wall to protect yourself.
