Interview with Lorelei James, author of Dirty Deeds

10 Jan 2017

What can you tell us about your new release, Dirty Deeds?

This was actually the first romance novel that I ever published. The rights recently reverted to me and as I was re-editing it, I sort of had to laugh because it is a funny, sexy, standalone romance — and that is super popular right now. I was too far ahead of the trend — haha — but I’m hoping that those readers who see the name “Lorelei James” and immediately associate it with westerns, cowboys and erotics, will give this book a chance because it is none of those things and shows that my writing style is very diverse.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I wasn’t finding what I wanted to read so I decided to quit talking about writing something and actually started doing it. It took 5 years to get published, and I’ll celebrate 12 years of being a published author in May of this year.

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

Eve Dallas and Roarke from the In Death series by JD Robb, followed closely by Jamie Frasier and Claire in Outlander.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show, who would be your first guest? What you want to ask

Stephen King. How he’s sustained his enthusiasm for writing over the decades and how he’s able to master excellent short story writing skills when he’s so amazing at crafting genre undefinable epics as well as kick-ass commercial fiction.

Where is your happy place?

My happy place is at home and it brings me the most joy to have our kids back, hanging out with Mom and Dad and the dog.

BAM. You’re a superhero. What’s your superpower?

My superpower would be time management — the ability to turn back time or the ability to create more time.

What scene in Dirty Deeds was your favorite to write?

The Bobcat scene.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Not specifically. But I noticed a plaque in my office, it’s been there for years and my eyes skim over it without really seeing it. Last week as I was trying to clean up a little, the saying on it really struck me as how I’d like to start out my new year — “Don’t postpone joy.”
