Interview with Lisa Jackson, Author of After She’s Gone

Tell us a little bit about your new release, After She’s Gone.

AFTER SHE’S GONE takes up ten years after DEEP FREEZE ends. When Allie Kramer, the younger sister disappears from the set of her recent movie, foul play is suspected. Cassie, her older and not nearly as talented sibling is determined to discover what happened to her sibling, but the closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she faces.

What’s your favorite song lyric?

“Give peace a chance.”

Where is your happy place? Why does it bring you joy?

I love being at the beach, the ocean’s vastness puts my existence into perspective. I also love being with my grandchildren as the innocence and wonder and yes, wisdom of the children brings me joy and hope.

Which book from your childhood or teenage years has stuck with you as an adult?

So many. Oh, how about ROSEMARY’S BABY by Ira Levin or . . .wait . . . maybe ON THE BEACH by Nevil Shute or 1984 by George Orwell, or either REBECCA by Daphne du Maurier or JANE EYRE by Charlotte Bronte. Oh, geez, this is hard. There are so many great books that I loved and still love.

You wouldn’t be caught dead, where?

I wouldn’t be caught dead in a singles bar or on a big game hunt. Wow–are they kinda the same thing?

If you could require the president to read one book, what would it be?

I guess it would be FAIL-SAFE by Eugene Burdick and Harvey Wheeler, or again, ON THE BEACH.

What’s your favorite quote or scene from After She’s Gone?

Hmmm . . . I liked the scene where Cassie and her husband meet again, and any scene with the detective was fun for me to write.

Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?

Again, there are so many. But in general: “If life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”
