Interview with Kenney Myers, Author of Jon Bragg Blue Essence

What can you tell us about your new release, Jon Bragg Blue Essence?

I have always loved Norse myths and I haven’t read a ton that were family friendly and covered a wider range of gods outside of Thor and Loki (they are great don’t get me wrong). My goal was to bring Bragi to the forefront a bit more as controversial as he may or may not be depending upon who you talk to. I love the range of things that can be covered through his use of poetry and music to influence others.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

1) The Mercy Thompson Series by Patricia Briggs
2) The Michael Vey Series by Richard Paul Evans
3) Mirror Lake Wolves Series by Jennifer Snyder
4) Prime Prophecy Series by Tamar Sloan
5) Jumper Book Series by Steven Gould

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

I would love to talk with Patricia Briggs about the various challenges she had writing the Mercy Thompson series and just to ask about the path she took to reach success with that series. I would also like to know what other ideas she may have had that didn’t take off as well as Mercy Thompson.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

I enjoy the lack of constraints on creativity. If you can think it, you can create it. I love the freedom that provides to just explore issues from different angles and find ways to make even ordinary situations seem interesting and relevant.

What is a typical day like for you?

I typically wake up at 4am and hit a quick workout (usually the rowing machine). I then get ready for work (I am the CTO of a startup) and work from 5:30am until around 5:00pm. I then go home and eat dinner with the family for an hour or so. After that, I am in my home office working on my latest project until 11pm or midnight. Rinse and repeat.

What scene from Jon Bragg Blue Essence was your favorite to write?

I love the descriptions of the scenes related to the big snow storm and just describing that for the uninitiated in Iowa winters.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Fight the good fight. Basically, try to do the best to stay positive and provide positive messages and pick and choose the things I battle over very carefully. You can see that displayed prominently on my website and as a major part of my logo.
