Icing is book two in my Aces Hockey series, which revolves around an NHL team in Chicago. The hero of Icing, Duncan Armstrong, is a country boy living in the big city, earning a lot of money and not sure how to deal with the female attention that brings. (Of course, he doesn’t realize that women aren’t only interested in him for his money, he’s actually pretty hot!) He’s just sworn off women when he meets Amber, who happens to have sworn to never get involved with a pro athlete. She grew up with a pro-athlete father who publicly humiliated himself, his family and ended up in jail with his bad decisions.
What fictional literary world would you most like to visit?
Can I choose my own world? LOL, I would so love to visit the world of my Chicago Aces, to hang out with the hockey players, to be in the dressing room with them and hear what they say, to have a beer with them!
What books do you find yourself returning to again and again?
There aren’t a lot of books that I re-read, but I have gone back to my Marian Keyes’ books, and some older historical romance books like Judith McNaught and Laura Kinsale.
Who was your childhood hero?
I don’t remember having a real life hero as a child! But if I can choose a fictional hero, it would be Anne of Green Gables.
If you had an extra hour each day, how would you spend it?
I would absolutely spend it writing. I have so little time, outside the day job and family commitments to my husband, kids and elderly aunts I care for, and so much of it gets sucked up with the business of writing. Much as I’d like another hour of sleep every day, writing is what I most like to do.
What’s your favorite thing about writing?
That’s so hard because I love so much about it. I guess I like leaving my real world and immersing myself in a fictional world with people I love. When I’m going through stressful times in real life, when people are making me crazy, that saves me.
What’s your favorite quote or scene from Icing?
The scene that was super fun was the one where Amber and her roommate Easton are watching hockey. Neither of them knows anything about it but they keep picking up on all the things the TV commentators say that sound dirty.
Do you have a motto, quote or philosophy you live by?
We’re not here for a long time, we’re here for a good time.
