Interview with Jenny Hale, Author of The Christmas Letters

12 Oct 2022

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write The Christmas Letters?

I got to thinking, “What would happen if Prince Charming wasn’t all he was cracked up to be?” That began the opening scene where the perfect guy isn’t so perfect.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of The Christmas Letters, what would they be?

“I’ll Be Home for Christmas” by Michael Bublé.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

I read my own genre but I also like nonfiction.

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

All is Bright by RaeAnne Thayne; Dreamland by Nicholas Sparks; (currently reading) The Shell Collector by Nancy Nail.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The Epilogue! You’ll see why…

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I drink coffee out of a mug, with a straw.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Big things can and will happen if you have the courage to take baby steps every day.

If you could choose one thing for readers to remember after reading your book, what would it be?

Build more than just a foundation. Keep going. Nurture the journey.
