Interview with Jennilynn Wyer, Author of Paper Stars Rewritten

09 Feb 2021

What can you tell us about your new release, Paper Stars Rewritten?

Paper Stars Rewritten is book two in the Fallen Brook Series. The series chronicles Elizabeth Fairchild’s love story from high school into adulthood, and is a high-heat, friends-to-lovers, second-chance, new adult romance with lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing what will happen next. Elizabeth had been best friends her whole life with three boys — Jayson, Julien, and Ryder. Instead of a love triangle, it was a love quadrangle! As all the guys vie for Elizabeth’s love, she makes a choice that changes everything. But what if she chose wrong? After the shocking and tragic cliffhanger of book one in the series, All Our Next Times, Paper Stars Rewritten picks up the story a year later while the characters are in college. Elizabeth comes back to them a changed person. She’s not the girl they once knew and loved. Will Ryder finally get his second chance at love with the girl of his dreams, or will Jayson and Julien stand in his way? And then there’s Fallon. He’s the devil in disguise that pops up and turns Elizabeth’s world upside down. Paper Stars Rewritten ends in a major cliffhanger. Their story concludes in book three, Broken Butterfly, releasing in late May 2021. The series contains content that some may consider triggering such as foul language, sexual content, and violence, and is recommended for ages 18+ for those reasons.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

I used to write poetry, so that was my first inspiration for writing. You will actually see some of my poems in the books I write as I interweave them into the storyline. My second inspiration for writing is the romance genre as a whole. I love reading romances. I devour them daily. When I’m not writing (or even when I am!) I usually read one-to-two complete romance novels a day. And it’s not just one romance genre I read. I read them all. Some I like more than others. Nora Roberts and Judith McNaught were my first loves in romance. My very first stories were inspired by them.

What’s on your top 5 list for the best books you’ve ever read?

Yeah, there’s no way I can choose just five favorites since I’ve read thousands. So, I’ll list five that have stuck with me as I’ve grown older:

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls: I was reading this book to my grandmother when she was ill with cancer. Every day, I would snuggle up with her in her bed and read one chapter. When I got to the last chapter of the book where the red fern grows on the dogs’ graves, she passed away. That memory has always stayed with me, and I cannot read that book without crying my eyes out.

Until You by Judith McNaught: I can read this book over and over again and still not get tired of it.

Carnal Innocence by Nora Roberts: Another book I have read and re-read so many times, I’ve lost count.

Rebecca Royce’s Reverse Harem Love Story Series (Unconventional, Undeniable, Unexpected): Her trilogy was my first foray into RH romances, and I was instantly hooked.

Son of the Morning by Linda Howard: This book caught me by surprise.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

If I was the host of a literary talk show today, I would probably want to interview Tijan and ask her what inspires her to create her worlds and characters, and how she developed her unique writing style (because I love it!)

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

Creating stories and characters that readers connect with. When I get an email, Facebook PM, or Instagram post from a reader that is so excited about one of my books or has a favorite character, it makes my day. I don’t think I would be writing as much as I do now if it weren’t for the support and love from the readers. This year, I have five books coming out! Being stuck indoors because of COVID has left me a lot of time to write. I even created a YA romance series under my pen name J.L. Wyer because readers wanted their teenage daughters to be able to read my books. The YA series came about because of their comments. I created a YA world from my Fallen Brook Series that was more appropriate for a younger audience or adults who don’t care for lots of sex scenes and f-bombs, which is what you get in my adult series of romance books.

What is a typical day like for you?

My typical day is usually waking up in the wee hours of the morning to take care of any business that needs to be done, check emails and posts, stuff like that. Before I can do anything, I have to have two cups of coffee, black with two Splendas. I then try to get in a couple of hours of writing before I have to change hats and become a teacher (I teach virtual lessons). Once evening comes around, I hopefully am able to sit back down at the computer to write some more or do Zoom sprints with my fellow romance authors. Lather, rinse, repeat, as the saying goes. This past year has been a bit monotonous since we’ve been quarantined inside so much where I live. Hopefully, 2021 will allow me to get back outside more!

What scene from Paper Stars Rewritten was your favorite to write?

Anything with Fallon! I love that cocky a-hole! He started out as a minor character in book one of the Fallen Brook Series, but I loved him so much, I made him a major character in the later books. For all you Fallon fans out there, just wait until Broken Butterfly (Book 3)! You will not be disappointed.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Pay it forward. Romance authors are some of the kindest, most supportive women (and men) in the business. We all want our fellow authors to succeed, and will help each other out wherever we can. Here’s where I do my shout out to my mentor, the R in R.L. Kenderson, a fellow romance author who has taken me under her wing and has provided me with such great guidance and support, I will probably never be able to thank her enough!
