Interview with Jane C. Brady, author of Cascading Petals

27 Mar 2018

What can you tell us about your new release, Cascading Petals?

Cascading Petals is a novel with a strong message for teens dealing with bullying. It also reflects on depression and teen suicide. This novel was inspired by the bullying and teen suicide in my own community.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

As a young girl, I used writing as a way of escape. Now, as an adult, I enjoy it because it allows me to use my creative side.

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

My favorite literary couple is Bella and Edward from Twilight.

What books are currently on your night stand?

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Honeymoon by James Patterson.

What’s your favorite thing about writing?

My favorite things about writing are the plot and character building.

What is a typical day like for you?

A typical day for me starts at 4 a.m., and I usually try to write for a couple of hours in the morning. During the day, I run the accounting department for the business my husband and I own. My evenings are spent enjoying my family, catching up with friends, exercise, and crunching deadlines for my next manuscript.

What scene in Cascading Petals was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write was in chapter 23, but I won’t mention what happened to avoid revealing any spoilers. I will say that, as a writer, emotions are essential to me, whether it’s sadness, happiness, pain, or anger. When I write, I want to move my readers.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Do the best you know how, and when you know better, do better.
