Interview with J. Saman, author of Beautiful Potential

07 Feb 2018

What can you tell us about your new release, Beautiful Potential?

Beautiful Potential is what happens when a gorgeous, brooding doctor with a tragic past meets a smart, sassy woman on the worst day of her life. It’s about overcoming a pain you never imagined you could heal from. It’s about breaking all the rules you set for yourself and falling in love.

What or who inspired you to become an author?

My high school English teacher. He was the type who took an interest, who went the extra mile and as a result, I discovered a love of books and a passion for writing.

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

Jane and Rutherford or Beatrice and Benedict. I like ‘em full of angst.

Say you’re the host of a literary talk show. Who would be your first guest? What would you want to ask?

Probably Jane Austen since she is very much dead and wrote some of the best romances ever. I’d want to know what it was like to write as a woman during a time when women weren’t particularly valued for their brains.

What’s on your writing desk?

Um. Way too much, lol. Something I’ve been fighting with for years actually. I decided to take another stab at it and hopefully, this time, it comes out as a finished product.

BAM. You’re a superhero. What’s your superpower?

I think maybe it would be the power to heal. Disease, tragedy, sadness, anger, whatever. That might sound sort of lame and not all that cool like being invisible or flying, but I think our ability to help people in their darkest hour and make their lives a little better is the ultimate superpower.

What scene in Beautiful Potential was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write was when Finn and Gia were in the limo on the way home from the football game. It was sweet and funny and tragic and I smiled through my tears as I wrote it.
