Interview with Irene Lawless, Author of A Dove in Paradise

What’s the story behind the story? What inspired you to write A Dove in Paradise?

These characters were introduced in Paradise West, my first Key West romance novel. From the moment Annette and Gus landed on the page, I knew I had to write their romance. Their chemistry was immediately off the charts.

If you had to pick theme songs for the main characters of A Dove in Paradise, what would they be?

Push It by Salt n’ Pepa. You see why toward the end of the book.

What’s your favorite genre to read? Is it the same as your favorite genre to write?

All romance, no matter the subgenre!

What books are on your TBR pile right now?

Grim and Bear It, Man Cave, and An Oath at Midnight.

What scene in your book was your favorite to write?

The fort scene was hands-down my fav. Mostly because it actually happened to me, so I was laughing the entire time I was getting the scene down.

Do you have any quirky writing habits? (lucky mugs, cats on laps, etc.)

I like to meditate before I start because it helps me focus on the scene I’m about to write. Works wonders on speed and word count.

Do you have a motto, quote, or philosophy you live by?

Keep putting one foot in front of the other, and never give up.
