Interview with Emerson Rose, author of The Doctor’s Nanny

31 Jan 2018

What can you tell us about your new release, The Doctor’s Nanny?

The Doctor’s Nanny is the first book in my Nanny series. I love writing child characters, so this is going to be a lot of fun for me! The Doctor’s Nanny is about a plastic surgeon player who falls for a hard working midwestern girl who has a wild past she can’t quite shake.

Which books would we be surprised to find on your shelves?

I love romance, it is by far my preference when I pick up a book to read for pleasure, which isn’t often. But, when I’m not absorbed in my latest book boyfriend’s story you can find something by Stephen King or Dean Koonz on my bedside table. I’m still trying to make my way through Stephen King and Owen King’s book Sleeping Beauties! It’s a monster of a book, but I love it.

What’s on your writing desk?

My writing desk, well let’s see. First of all, I have back and neck issues so I sit in a rocking chair with a gliding ottoman under my desk while I write. On my desk is a 32 inch TV that I connect to my MacBook to lessen eye strain. I always have something to drink whether it be coffee or sparkling water, a pile of craft books, a notebook with information about my current WIP, a cup of pens and notecards. It’s pretty messy right now, so I’m sure there are a lot of other things there but nothing worth mentioning.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t waste your life doing something that doesn’t make you happy. My favorite quote is, Do what you love.

If you could invent anything, what would it be?

If I could invent anything I would invent a way to travel anywhere via transport. Imagine the places you could visit and the time saved!

Who is your favorite couple from literature?

My favorite couple from literature has to be Rhett Butler and Scarlette O’Hara. I love sassy, independent heroines and Alpha males. You can’t get much more Alpha than Rhett when he says, “No, I don’t think I will kiss you, although you need kissing, badly. That’s what’s wrong with you. You should be kissed and often, by someone who knows what he’s doing.” Swoon.

What scene in The Doctor’s Nanny was your favorite to write?

My favorite scene to write from this book was the scene where Sasha was getting ready to go into surgery, she was under anesthesia and told Dr. Xander Sullivan, “Make me pretty daddy.” Just visualizing this scene made me laugh.
